No problem, I get more info out of threads like these than any do anywhere else. Reviews are nice, but are cookie cutter, when is the last time we saw a bad hardware review on one of the big sites?

I enjoy threads like this as well, which is also part of the reason I posted this. Smile

Well I like these too. Now let's see... I have to wait a while until my wife digests the "I just have to get a couple of parts for the DVR setup" that I pulled to buy all of this, then break it to her that we need a "minor" update to our sound system (and ditch the Panasonic theater system that only has composite inputs)Big Grin

Now if anyone has a suggestion on how to then distribute the sound from my music collection to other rooms in the house and outside.........

I don't know much about them, but I know they make wireless (different spectrum than WiFi) speakers that are indoor/outdoor. Worth a thought maybe?

A bit expensive but

Squeezbox

I forget if it can do multiple players.

Much cheaper but it can only do one at a time.

What brand/speed memory is everyone using with the MSI board? I'm using two 512MB sticks of their Corsair Value Select cas2.5 version of their DDR400. Also, how much RAM are you setting aside for the embedded video? I think I have mine set to the max, 128mb?

Occasionally I'll have GBPVR just close randomly without any error msg on the screen but the error "memory is corrupt" gets written to the gbpvr log (been discussed with no solution in the support forum). I ran memtest86 on the PC overnight and whole next day (nearly 24hrs) without a single error. Only thing I can think is the embedded video uses the memory more aggressive (maybe?) than memtest86 actually tests for and I occasionally get this error.

BTW, if anyone is curious about my experiences with this board and setup (with pics) click the link in my sig.

Crucial PC2700 (DDR266) 512MB x 2 running in dual channel with max set aside for video.

Odd you mention that GB-PVR randomly "closes". Mine does too... I doubt memory is bad, but it might be the way the board handles it? Every now and then when I am watching a recording it will stop and go back out to the recordings menu as well. I used to think that these were caused by my old ATI Remote Wonder, I upgraded to an MCE not too long ago. After the remote switch it seems to be better, but not gone altogether.

I am positive my RAM isn't bad... but I think you might be on the right track, perhaps its the way the video card handles it? I haven't upgraded the BIOS on it, maybe I should look into it and see if it my might be worth trying... I'll post what I find.

Yeah, i went thru that thread and the one at AVS forums looking for any thing in my setup that might change to help this issue. It happens maybe once a week now, so it's not too big a deal, but while my Dad was up visiting us, I was showing him how to run the TV and how I had simplified it since hte last time he'd been over and wouldn't ya know it, the damn thing crashed :o Big Grin

It's a great board for PVR use tho. I have mine outputting sound thru both the mini jack line-out which goes to the TV and also the SPDIF out to my reciever (to enhance some shows and listen to mp3 collection). I initially put in the Component outputs on mine as well, but the picture quality with my TV is super using the DVI, so I;ll pull that bracket out at some point.

What codecs are you all using and which render mode? I purchased the Purevideo Gold (Dolby Digital support) and am using VMR7.
