I'm thinking of getting the A180 card for HD basically because of the QAM capability. I know at this point in time gbpvr doesn't support qam for this card(at least another thread indicated that this was the case). Will gbpvr ever support qam on this card?

One other question, even though this is a single channel tuner it appears from the specs that this card can also handle analog/NTSC video(albeit w/o the hardware encoder). Is this the case? And will a P2.4GHz processor be able to encode NTSC video?

Thanks!

To be honest, I dont see QAM support being added for this device. QAM uses proprietary interfaces on the drivers, and I dont have any contacts Avermedia to supply me the required information, and without this GB-PVR will not be able to utilitise this aspect of the device.

Unfortunately due to the lack of MPEG2 encoder hardware, the analog side of this device will also not work with GB-PVR.

Pretty much all you could do with this device is OTA ATSC.

So basically there are only a couple of QAM options with gbpvr(the HDHomeRun and Air HD)? The reason I am balking at those is the expense.

Otherwise I can go HVR-1600 but then have to go OTA? Any rumors on whether or not the HVR-1600 can have QAM added later as a firmware update?

Correct. This isnt really a GB-PVR specific limitation though, you'll pretty much find the same or less list of compatible QAM devices will other PVR software (SageTV, BeyondTV etc).

The HVR-1600 is a decent OTA digital or analog device.

Not that I've heard, but I have no doubt we'll see new models appear in the future that do support QAM.

You might be able support the non-qam side with software recorder or graph recorder plugin.

As to QAM your out of luck there - the guys at DVICO keep telling me they will have BDA QAM tuner capability soon, but they only say be patient - not two weeks, two months or two years. So for QAM you'll need the home run or AirHD for the time being.

UPDATE:
They said somewhere in 2Q07, probably the tail end would be my guess.
