sub Wrote:but now that you've mentioned you're using the ffdshow video decoder...

The ffdshow decoder can cause this problem if it is attempting to manage the aspect ratio itself. Temporarily try a different decoder to see if the problem goes away.

after switching decoders there's no change, also i checked the settings for ffdshow, it shouldnt be trying to resize anything, as it's not currently set to..

this has actually been bothering me for quite some time (i don't remember if it happened at the version switch or before) and i just finally decided to see if anyone else had the problem and consequently found this thread

Can you post the gbpvr.exe-native.log showing an attempt to use a decoder other than ffdshow? I'll see if I can see why.

From that section of log, I'm pretty sure it is ffdshow causing this problem for you. It looks like GB-PVR correctly understands where the video should be placed on the screen, but I'm sure ffdshow is cocking this up during its downstream processing.

according to ffdshow it's not, and the same problem happens regardless of the decoder.

Can you show me the logs that shows a decoder other than the ffdshow being used? The section of log above is using ffdshow.

i thought that too, which means the problem is something else, because the config app tells me i've chosen the intervideo noncss decoder.

You're playing an AVI file. The MPEG-2 video decoders, like intervideo noncss decoder, are only used when you play a MPG file.

I've been playing avi files to begin with. the problem happens with avi files I suppose, things I record display correctly. I assumed the problem was with gbpvr, as pressing F7 in gbpvr is what fixes it. -- however all of this brings me nowhere closer to finding out what the heck wires I tangled to make this happen

This is exactly the symptoms we've seen via ffdshow in the past, so I'm pretty confident ffdshow is causing the problem. The reason pressing F7 fixes it is because ffdshow only adjust the aspect ratio when playback starts. If you press F7 until you reach the 'auto' ratio, this is what GB-PVR had tried to initially set it to.
