Video Library/Transcoding

So, I'm a new convert to GBPVR. I nuked my SageTV and came over here. So far, I like what I see, and REALLY like the Transcoding feature(s).

The question I have is:

I have all these programs/movies still from my SageTV recordings. I'd like to do a batch transcode from within the video library, but there doesn't seem to be any way to do that.

Am I missing something?

Afaik there is no batch transcoding in the standard videolibrary. maybe in one of the plugins. Wrt the Sage recordings they probably play just as they are, in gbpvr. Depending on the tv card, they might be mpg's. I think I remember Sage uses his own file extension. Maybe renaming them to: whatever.mpg will do the trick.

I'm not having a problem with the Sage recordings, per se (they're standard MPG files). I'm just trying to find a way within GBPVR to batch transcode to DivX.

I've tried to do batch transcoding recently and learned a few things that will prevent headaches.

I found that WinFF is a fine GUI that permits batch transcoding files, BUT the FFMPEG it comes bundled with doesn't play well with GBPVR. So you can use WinFF, but you must obey the following rules to avoid headaches.

Rule #1 is ONLY USE THE FFMPEG.EXE file that come bundled with GBPVR. Overwrite WinFF's file with a copy of the one from /devnz/Third Party/ FFMPEG.
Rule #2 is USE ALL OF sub's FFMPEG command line arguments, except you can substitute a -qscale argument in place of the -b argument. Keep all the rest in there. You can edit WinFF's presets in an xml file that comes with it, so do so and take sub's args out of GBPVR's config.xml file.

ZProcess with do batch processing. Need to add a conversion profile to the config.xml, and then you can select each recording. add it to the queue, and then start the transcode queue later...

How about this one line batch file to convert all files in a directory. You would need to have ffmpeg in your path or in the directory with the files to be converted, or change ffmpeg to a fully qualified path.
I wasn't sure of your extension for the sage files so I just used *.mpeg. You will probably need to change this.
The one line needs to be put in a file whatever.bat, and the bat needs to be in the dir with the files to be converted.


DISCLAIMER I did not test this. Try it on a copy of a couple files first.
