Hi all,

I've just installed the COMICS plugin and I am getting a message stating "Error: The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server.".  I have searched the forum for similar problems and these seem to have been resolved with firewall adjustments.  I have given the GB-PVR executable and the Comics plugin dll permission access to the internet through the firewall but when I try to load a cartoon the above error occurs.   I have checked the traffic logs of the firewall and no attempt was made to connect to the server.  The following error appeared in the GBPVR.exe.log file:-

19/01/2005 23:57:38.672 ERROR [2] Error: msg=0x202 (WM_LBUTTONUP) hwnd=0x2a008c wparam=0x0 lparam=0x640056 result=0x0   :  The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server.   :     at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.CheckFinalStatus()

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Sandy.  [Image: smile.gif]

try the weather plugin and see if that can connect to the internet, if it cant, then its a probably a firewall issue, if it can then its a comic plugin issue.

Reven, Tipstir,

Thanks for your help, but unfortunately the COMICS plugin still isn't working.

Reven,

I downloaded the Weather plug in and installed it but it couldn't get access to the internet. There were no errors appearing in the log though.

Tipstir,

I don't use XPs internal firewall, I brought the firewall down briefly and tried with no firewall but it still didn't connect and the errors were still appearing in the log.

Thanks again for your help.

SandyD.

its not a comics plugin error, if neither weather or comics can access the internet, for some reason, at some point, gbpvrs access to the internet is being blocked.

Yes, I have to agree with reven's assessment.

Reven, Sub,

I take your point and accept that if there was anything wrong with the plugins themselves there would be alot more activity on the forum regarding these problems.

I am assuming that both the Comics and Weather plugins use Http to fetch the relevant information from the internet. The Internet radio works fine and it uses Http. The Internet Radio however, appears to be part of the core GBPVR functionality and is not a plugin.

Does the Internet Radio use a different API from the COMICS/WEATHER plugins for it's Internet access?

I have the XP firewall permanently disabled and use Sygate Personal Firewall. I have checked the logs and there was no attempt to access the network at all when I try to use the Comics or Weather plugins.

I have recently re-installed the operating system (Windows XP Pro) and although I have installed the latest .NET I have not applied SP2.

Does Comics have a dependancy on SP2?
