Trying to record from VCR

Hello. I'm currently trying to capture some footage from my VCR with my Hauppauge capture card. However, whenever I try to set up a manual recording, it says my channels haven't been configured properly. I've tried to set my channels up (and haven't had any luck with that), but is that really necessary for what I'm trying to do? I want to record what's coming in through my card's composite input... not its coaxial input.

Any idea how to do this? Thanks!

What card are you using?

Have you setup a capture source?

I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150.

And yes, I have. Do you want some more specific information about that?

What exactly does it say?

"No channels have been set up. Please run the Configuration utility and setup the EPG source. Use the 'Update EPG' button to force the system to import the latest set of channel and programme information."

Sounds like you didnt set up the channels or EPG on your capture source.

If you're just intending to capture from a VCR with GB-PVR, then you've probably picked the worst app for the job. You'd be much better off just using the Hauppauge WinTV2000 software for this type of task.

That said, you should be able to use the 'add' button in your capture source settings to manually create a channel called 'AV1' or 'Svideo' or something similiar.

I do it all of the time. Just add a capture source, direct recording plugin, no EPG, No channel changer. Then edit the settings of the direct recording plugin and select either composite, external tuner (or s-video if desired). Then "add" a channel name as sub mentioned, giving it a unique name that you will recognise as a capture input. You may need to open and close config between steps.

You then use manual recording to select the added "channel", select the quality level, set the time to more than necessary (you can stop it whenever you want) and have it start a minute in the past. It will start recording immediately. (you're going to be editing it anyway aren't you?)

Initial setup can be tedious but once set up it's easy to use. At least,I think it is Big Grin.
