I just can't get this thing working. I am trying to get ATSC and s-video to work and nothing seems to work. It keeps telling me I need to setup the EPG for ATSC and s-video says it can't find the tuner....

We'll tackle the ATSC side of this question first.

First create a capture source, configured for the BDA Recording Source, with HVR1600 selected. Set the EPG source to zap2it and enter the details of your zap2it account, then hit the 'update EPG' button to pull in the list of channels. Next hit the 'map digital channels to EPG channels' button. It should now scan and find all your available ATSC channels. For each of the the scan identified, you need to click in the tuning request then select the related channel. After you complete this for each channel, ok out of the config app, and you should be ready to go.

If you can do one of these steps, tell me exactly what is happening.

Once you confirm you've got this working, then I'll ask a couple more questions about your intended use of svideo and we'll get this set up for you also.

Okay thanks looks like I succeeded. Now is there a way I can force the window to 16:9 ? I picked 16x9 but I have a full 4:3 window and when I selected 4:3 I get black bars on the top and bottom of the HD content. Also I'm ready to do s-video now.

GB-PVR is designed to be used fullscreen, and this is what it's aspect ratio control expects. You should set the TV Shape setting in the config app to match the physical shape of your TV or monitor so that when its running fullscreen it'll correctly display the picture. When you're running in a window, all bets are off when it comes to getting the correct aspect ratio.

Are you intending to capture channels from a set top cable or satellite box via svideo, or are you trying to capture tapes from a VCR or something similar? The answer will vary depending on your intended use.

Satellite Set top box.

Ok, just setup an additional capture source, using the Direct Recording Plugin, with the HVR1600 card selected and the 'svideo' input. Also setup the zap2it account details for the account that has the channels you want to receive through this satellite box. OK out of the config app.

To use a set top box, you'll obviously want to add an IR Blaster to you set up so GB-PVR can change channels on that box when it needs to (otherwise regardless of channel you try to watch/record, you'll just get whatever the satellite box is tuned to). When you get a blaster you'll need to go back into your capture source and set the 'channel changer' appropriately for whatever blaster you end up getting.

I dont know what satellite service you use in the US, or whether the listings are available, but I'm guessing zap2it will have them?

Most people seem to use an MCE IR blaster, or USB-UIRT, or there are some simple serial port ones that use WinLirc - do a forum search.

I've only ever used a blaster short range. They might work across room. I dont really know sorry.

I'm not sure. I've not seen confirmation either way for this feature on the HVR1600.
