Media MVP Problems ?

Does version 0.23.13 work with the MVP ?

I did a fresh install Windows install on the machine I use as a media server and installed V0.23.13. When I power up the MVP it sits at the 2 blue/3 white stage for ever.

If I restore V0.22.7 from a backup (the whole DENZ directory) and it works fine.

Tried an upgrade to V0.23.13 and it stops at the same stage again.

Any ideas ?

Yes, I'm using it and have found it to be the most stable GB-PVR version on the MVP to date.

Is it correct that GB-PVR will load and boot the MVP directly?

I have not been able to do that but have had to first boot the computer with the Hauppauge Software, unplug the MVP and then replug it after 5 seconds so that it loads the Hauppauge software, turn off the MVP with the remote, turn off the Hauppauge server on the computer, and then start the GB-PVR server on the computer. At that point when I turn on the MVP with the remote GB-PVR then loads just fine.

If I unplug the MVP then I have to go through the same sequence again to get GB-PVR to run. Having not used previous versions of the software I just assumed that was the process.

The previous post seems to indicate that in past versions all these steps were not necessary and that the Hauppauge software was not needed evertime the MVP plug was pulled.

WJC, it will directly boot the MVP if you have a DHCP server present somewhere on your network. The Original Hauppauge could act DHCP (for assigning IP address to the MVP), but GB-PVR MVP Server cannot perform this function.

I do have a server running through a Linksys Router which assigns the MVP a dynamic address (generally 192.168.1.103). The MVP is directly connected to a port on the back of this router as is the computer where the software is running. I can run a piece of software called netscan and see the address all the time when the MVP is on. However when I start the GB-PVR software the device shows "Loading Software" on the TV screen and just sticks there. Is there something that I am missing?

I dont know. Something different in your environment.

You definitly stopping both Hauppauge services, using the Start -> Program -> Hauppauge Media MVP -> Stop icon?

You are right about the IP address. Just shut everything down and unplugged the MVP. It does pulls an IP address from the router but it does seem to take awhile. Perhaps I am just a bit to anxious and am starting the software too quickly perhaps before the IP address if available and that is either causing it to hang or maybe if I were more patient it would eventually load the software and move forward. A little more investigation needed to figure out how to start this stuff up on my part it appears to be needed.

Thanks.....

Yes I am stopping the Hauppauge software as you mentioned. I think that I will uninstall the Hauppauge software so that that its server never starts which will make it easier to figure out what is happening.

Thanks.... [Image: smile.gif]

The other common culprit is a software firewall getting in the way.

I assume you have the configuration programme setup to manage at least 1 MVP?

As Sub says, other areas would be firewall. My firewall software needs to be educated about each new version of GBPVR that gets loaded.

Do you run VPN software? This one caught me out in the early days as cisco VPN has a firewall built in which does not allow the MVP to run.

What version of windows are you using? If you are using XP with SP2, possibly its firewall is getting in the way?

Cheers,
Colin.
