what usb hdtv card should i get? any w/ hardware mpeg recording?

Recording is not very resource intensive since you are basically just saving the mpeg2 stream...it is the playback that takes some work, so LiveTV is probably the most cpu intensive situation. Recordings are great and playing them back on that laptop runs around 50% cpu. By the way, unlike recording analog, there is no such thing as hardware mpeg encoders for HDTV, since again, you are just recording the stream.

I'm using the pinnecle HDTV Pro stick usb tuner for my system and have been pretty satisified with it. It receives all the channels that the antenneaweb.org site says I should be receiving by just using some rabbit ears in the attic. It comes with a mini remote that I have configured for use with GB-PVR which works well enought until I can affored a full sized remote with all the complete buttons.

I have not outputed from that laptop using s-video (though the laptop has an s-video connection). I have outputed only using vga (since I have only been interested in hd), which has worked fine...quality is a good as the laptop display. I can try the s-video if you would like me too?

could u try it? i'm thinking about pulling the trigger and getting it.

circuit city currently has it for $100-$20 rebate = $80+tax. Amazon has it for $84 + free shipping. I'll prob get it at cc in case I need to return.

Remember, an s-video output is only going to give you a standard definition NTSC picture. You'd need to be using a vga/dvi/component/hdmi output to get a high definition picture to your TV.

hmm....just picked it up. stutters a ton in wintv2000. gbpvr can't detect it. any custom file in the config? thanks.
