how do I stop Windows going to the log in page when idle?

Hello,

As per the title, I am having a problem with my HTPC going to the log-in page and requiring a password entry when it hasn't been used for a few minutes, which is a real pain as it stops the remote from working, and I only have access to Windows through another computer using VNC viewer.

I have the power options set to hibernate after 10 minutes, and the turn off monitor to never, and in the "userpasswords" settings the box for requiring a password to use the computer is not checked.

Basically the computer alternates between hibernating as it should after 10 minutes, doing nothing and just staying with the GBPVR menu page indefinitely (or Windows if GBPVR is closed), or going to the log-in page. It seems completely random but I guess it shouldn't be.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Under the Display options, Screen Saver does it have "On Resume Password protect"?

Thanks for that; "on resume, display welcome screen" was checked, so I have unchecked it and will see what happens.

Also, under Windows XP if you have a password (which I think you must if you want to access via Remote Desktop) but don't want to have to enter it when Windows first starts up, you can do the following:

1. Start / Run, "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes)

2. On the "User Accounts" screen, select the account and untick the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer"

The next boot should go straight into Windows, and if you also disable system startup sounds (Control Panel / Sounds) and add GBPVR to the startup programs list, then it will boot silently straight into GBPVR.
