Whether you like the default 'blue' skin or not wasnt the point. Look past the choice of background image and colours and you'll see that GB-PVR is no longer rendered to some low fixed resolution and stretched to fill the screen. We now have a pretty good skinning engine giving sharp text, and capable of lot more than it was in the past.

I'm sure the community2 skin is probably still using lower resolution images for backgrounds to things. I'm sure given a bit more time we'll start to see new skins being created that use high resolution images etc, so

Quote:that background looks a little off (like how a gradient looked in win95 only using 256 colours, err best i can explain, just a little off).
To be honest, I dont care what anyone thinks about the default background. I like it and I'm sticking with it Big Grin

Quote:the tv guide doesnt lineup for me, the rectangles seem to be drawn to big and the bottoms are all cut off (ill post a screenshot when im at home if you like)
I aware of some minor tweaks like this required. As a first release of the new stuff, its pretty good.

Quote:totally agree, theres just still a couple of things keeping me from coming back, overscan probably the biggest at the moment...i could handle a "average" skin for a little while, but i have to be able to see the menu Smile
I'm testing the overscan fix at the moment.

im just not sure if the rendering problem is unique to my setup or if its the actual image (which i do like).

ehh ill play around with it tonight.

Right you are, they are low resolution source images that I did not create, so I have no means to upscale well. If anyone has hi-res images they want me to add, I'll be glad to do it (provided it doesn't violate copywrites).

It is the image, not a rendering problem. There is some banding in that image, but it never bothered me. There is a lot of history in that image, having been cut from a small part of the original GB-PVR background image (which was only 720x480), then upsized, so not a lot of detail in there.

I'm sure you could replace it with any highly detailed image, and get a perfect picture with no banding.

the sassari stuff is higher res than most, have you updated to use the full res images?

actually, there are probably a couple things that you could do to fix the image... I know that when I was modifying the sassari background, if I rendered it as a JPEG there was banding, but if I used a PNG it looked much much better. so thats an option.
the other one is already something that has been asked for... you could use a SVG for the background.. that would give you a perfect render on any screen size Smile

on the topic of SVGs, how much overhead would be requierd to render them? I am guessing that it would be dependent on the complexity of the SVG.

All images are un-modified from their source, they are their defualt resolution.

Right now, no. There is no support for horizontal menus yet. I can dump the images into the community skin and adjust the main menu somewhat.

No horizontal menu at the moment, I've been playing with modifying Sassari for PVRX2 within the restrictions of the current version of PVRX2 however there is banding on the jpg version of the background of Sassari. Haven't tried the png version yet.

I agree with Reven, don't like the blue/green front ends so I'm playing with a much darker blue/gold version, but I need to try and do something with the TV Guide as it look particulary poor at the moment, and I'm only changing the screens that I use

What res is classed as 'high-res'? Also, if a whole skin was high res would that effect lower specd computers/screens as they would have to downscale them?
