OK, so let's say the service were to cost 5.00/month.....
Why not get a commercial product that costs 60.00, get free updates within the major version # AND a cheap upgrade cost to the next major version change. EPG is free.

My thing is, if you keep the commercial software for at least a year, why would you get a freeware program that costs you more in the end than paying for software?

Just a thought, please respond.

I tried Sage and BTV before trying GBPVR. Sage did not put out a compliant mpeg file so other software (MYHD) could not play it back.

BTV EPG data has an incremental update function that does not work. So you end up updating your EPG manually or trying to add third party software that forces a full update of the EPG.

BTV support...whos on first...

Current releases. I just started using GBPVR...also current release. Unless there is a solution that works as well as ZAP2IT I'm afraid I'll be pushed back to BTV. I'm looking for OTA digital channels and first run capability. Looking at the various threads I haven't seen a grabber cover everything yet. Looks like the yahoo gotv solution does not suppport the DVICO tuners.

The knock I have with BeyondTV is that if you are using an "unofficial" version, the EPG gets all messed up because everyone uses the same serial to set up their listing account on Snapstream.

BeyondTV seems to me to be the worst PVR software. GBPVR the best and SageTV the second best and WMC the 3rd best. If I were a Linux guy I might like MythTV.

I've toyed with Myth in Ubuntu and wasn't impressed however I didn't spend much time with it. I found it rather slow.
I trialed SageTV years ago (v4 I think) and it was nice but at that time, it was resource hungry on my pc. That's when I found GBPVR and this forum and I've never looked back.
I actually am testing MC for Micosoft now and admit it has improved much. I just feel 'at home' with GBPVR. And, you definitely can't beat the support!

The support is especially nice but so is the free and nice MVP server, network video support, client, EWA, forum, and Wiki. Each of those by themselves are great and better than the competition.

For those curious where you will eventually find more info about this pending 'pay for listings' option that has been mentioned a couple of times, they can visit http://www.easytvdata.org/. There is not much to see there yet, but it gives you a little bit of info that should be useful.

I hope it works out! GBPVR with the ZAP2IT first time run is the best out here!

Any idea if the first run function will be there?
