All of a sudden I'm getting a lot of stuttering using gbpvr and/or pvrx2 on both my host (main) gbpvr server and my pc client. I've never experienced this problem until today. I haven't done anything on the host except install Homeseer 2.

When I try to watch live tv on my client pc it takes an awful long time for the video to start IF gpvr or pvrx2 are running on the host machine. If neither is running, the client machine is fine and the video plays flawlessly.

When gpvr or pvrx2 are running on the main gbpvr machine, their cpu usage is in the high 90s. This is even if the gui is just sitting at the main menu waiting for user input.

I'm attaching my logs in the hopes that some kind soul can take a look and tell me what's causing my frontend to eat all of my clock cycles.

Many thanks!

Wired. The video on the gbpvr server stutters as well so I don't think it's a network issue. I used to be able to stream without trouble. It's the 'runaway' cpu on the server that concerns me most. I think that's where the problem lies.

Anyone? Please? My recordings appear to be fine unless the frontend is up and then they have lots of problems. Any idea on why my CPU usage is so high?

There is nothing really obvious in the logs. Are you playing back on the primary monitor or a secondary one?

When does the high CPU usage start? When does it drop back to normal? (double check)

You're not trying to run GBPVR.exe and PVRX2.exe at the same time are you? If you do this they fight for control of the videocard, which gives undesirable results. (one of your logs looked like this was happening)

Primary

CPU load is very low (<10%) when only the recording service is running. As soon as I start either gbpvr or pvrx2 the cpu usage goes over 90% while sitting at the main menu.

Nope, just one at a time. I was trying to figure out if one or the other was causing the problem.

On a side note, I installed Meedios (Meedio OS project) to test my hardware and everything seems to work fine with that software. I'm not sure what's changed with my GBPvr set up. I may have to resort to uninstalling and reinstalling but I'd prefer not to lose everything in my db.

As always, thanks for all the help.

It is normal to have a fair bit of activity when the app is first started, as it loads the EPG in the background. How long this takes depends on the number of channels you have, and the number of days worth of listings. How many of these have you got?

When this background loading completes, the CPU usage should drop right back down. Leave it for a few minutes and then recheck.

I've left it running for about ten minutes and it's staying near 100%. I've got cable listings for 7 days on about 70 channels. The thing that gets me is that this has just started happening. I hven't had any issues with gbpvr before. I did upgrade recently, but it was working fine for about a week.

When I close either gbpvr or pvrx2 I get a "GB-PVR has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message.

Any ideas on what I could/should try?

Since my last post, I've found that the problem I'm having is also affecting meedios. This was not the case after the initial install but now when I start meedios it does the same thing with the high cpu usage. Just for fun, I installed BeyondTV trial and it too had the same issue. As soon as I watched livetv for the first time, the cpu pegged at 100% and then any time I opened that application it too would hold at 100%.

In trying to remedy this problem, I've updated my video drivers, ran virus and spyware scanners, defragged, uninstalled and reinstall hauppauge drivers and software. None of which has changed anything.

I played a previously recorded mpeg using media player and my cpu load was in the 60s.

I know this is a wild goose chase but does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to find out what's causing my machine to freak out when any pvr software is open?

Grrrr!

I cant think why its taking that long, but I'm still thinking its EPG load using this CPU. This crash your mention is a known problem that occurs if you close GBPVR/PVRX2 while the EPG is still loading in the background.

What EPG source are you using?

Zip and attach your logs and I'll take a look.
