Hi.

I got a wMVP in a (sealed) MVP box last time I bought a plain MVP Smile . Nice. Unfortunately there was no antenna in the box.

Does anyone know what loose antenna to buy that would attach to the socket?

I'm thinking that "Somebrand" accessory wireless router antenna would do...

TIA

If you don't get the option to go back to change from the wired to wireless modem in the setup program then you won't have the internal CF wireless card to go with the antenna.

I do have configuration options for both Wired and Wireless on this. It also has two MAC addresses in the bottom. So i assume it will work?

The connector on the back that i assume is for the antenna is not a 'normal' wireless SMA/SMC or the likes type, but looks more like a RCA Audio connector.

On some photos it seems that the antenna is on the front? The front on my unit looks just like my wired MVP - i.e. one unbroken piece of plastic.

Maybe it's a wMVP in a MVP shell?

Note: This is the european version with a SCART connector on the back. If it helps i can post a photo when I get back from work.

Verified. It's got two MAC addresses in the bottom. A label stating: Model 86020 Rev H3. Top cover silk print only says MVP - nothing about wireless.

Socket next to the Scart looks something between a TV antenna and an RCA socket (like for stereo interconnects).

Is this normal for a wMVP?

I think all revision H's mvp's wireless or not are given two MAC addresses. The wireless one is just stored in flash, the CF wireless card has it's own but the wMVP's logic uses the flash copy. You can tell if you've got the wireless card by hitting back on the Preferred Server screen where you get the choice to use either the wireless or wired connection.

I've never seen a SCART model but I think the connection you are seeing is the digital audio out and not the wifi antenna.

OMG do I feel stupid :o :p :o

That was actually what i thought it was in the first place; but between my unsuccessful attempt to mount a digital cable in my first try (tight fit) and never having actually heard of a new revision with digital out (all previous wired models I have had in my hands didn't have the digital out); I simply assumed it was some kind of wireless connector <doh>!

So - have you/others any listening tests on how much difference there is between the digital out and the analog? A very brief test suggests the expected advantage of the digital.

Also - will a DVB-T broadcast movie normally have 5.1 embedded, and is that sent out via the digital out during playback?

Maybe I should start another thread, but here it is anyway.

I have confirmation that the 5.1 is indeed broadcast.

So the question is: Does it make it all the way through reception->recording>replay>MediaMVP digital out?

I've been very cursious about whether the mvp output was bit-perfect. Maybe one day someone will hook one up to an unprocessed optical in and find out. The rest of the test belongs to the DAC. I like what I hear and to me that's what counts.

As for 5:1 AC3 out, I'm pretty sure you need the mvpmc dongle in audio passthru mode with GBPVR to get full benefits from this. For more info see http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=25292

Note that it is far from perfect but for some reason one of my clear QAM SD/AC3 broadcasts stays in near perfect sync. YMM Definitely V.

Thanks Martin.

I'm already using mvpmc, so I'll try to do some movie recordings and then some listening using different settings.

You said "...far from perfect..."

Sync-wise or...?

Sync-wise, I haven't figured out how to manage the digital out to match the PTS of the mpeg. The passthru is still raw AC3 and you must configure it on via the command line or the main menu setup. Note the raw AC3 stream from my QAM HVR 1600 device contains errors in the transport stream right itself so that is another potential problem you may find that I can't do anything to fix.

Edit: note that I have never tested a DVB mpeg-ts file with AC3 so I am only guessing that these will work. If have trouble with your files, I might need a sample emailed to me.
