I've (at least temporarily) gone back to Snapstream, because their web interface gives me the ability to set a manual recording to a specific minute. I could not program tonight's Happy Days reunion and ER, because ER starts at 8:59, not 9:00. With BeyondTV I made Happy Days a manual recording from 7:00 to 8:59 to resolve the conflict.
I don't have room for a second tuner card, nor am I inclined to buy one just so I can record two shows at once. If I actually wanted two from the same time slot, then fine, but not for a 60-second overlap.
Maybe this belongs on the Wish List forum, but there should be some way to resolve a 1-minute or 5-minute conflict like this. Maybe end one show early, or start the other late, rather than have to cancel one of them altogether.
BTW, NBC does this specifically to destroy our ability to do what we (and a jillion Tivo users) are doing.

an easy fix might be to allow negative values in the post/pre padding for manual recordings, of course checks would have to be put in place so the recording time isnt a negative number. but thats probably the easiest solution.

Wfooshee,

You might want to check out a couple of utility programs that have been written to address this particular issue.

1. AddReOccur - allows you to schedule by Keyword.
2. External Recording Manager (ERM) - adds Priority Recording as well as a fairly robust restriction based configuration for recordings (time, channel, day of week, time range, etc.)
3. XRecord - which provides a more enhanced management UI for recordings.

AddReOccur and ERM are in the process of being merged, and hopefully a merged version will be available in a couple of weeks.

This will give you the ability to add Priority to your reoccuring searches as well as your reoccuring season recordings. I too used to use BTV 3.5, but after developing the ERM I have gotten rid of BTV and GBPVR is my recording platform of choice now.

I'll check those out when I get a chance, I'm at work now, stuck doing what they pay me for. I'm not sure how prioritizing would work, though. I don't want to choose between the two shows, as in not getting one of them, I want to choose which one records during the overlap period. in other words, switch from Happy Days to ER, even though Happy Days isn't quite complete. Is that what I can hope for?

The next version should help with the problem you specified as it has the ability to specify a Start Time Adjustment and/or an End Time adjustment. This will allow you to Either subtract or add to the Time that the recording starts or ends. This adjustment will be in number of minutes. So you can get both recordings.

So in your case, you would specify the End Time adjustment to be -1 to subtract 1 minute from the show that is in conflict.

I just added the interfaces for the ERM to do this today, so it'll take a couple days of testing to verify that we didn't break anything.
