With Sub away for a while I thought I would do some research to see how many other people are experiencing this problem,  this might shed some light as to the cause and a possible solution.

Here is what is happening:

I launch GBPVR and select LiveTV.

If I don’t change the channel it will work fine and the file (Autorotica_2_20050202_18001900.mpg) in the LiveTVBuffer folder will continue to grow above 20mb as the show is being watched.

Now if I change the channel a new file is created in the LiveTVBuffer folder reflecting the name of the new show:
(Winter Revolution_2_20050202_1800200.mpg).

If I stay on this channel the file will grow to ~20mb.  Then the screen will flash and a new file is created in the LiveTVBuffer folder named:
(Autorotica_2_20050202_18001900-2.mpg).  The channel doesn’t change and the show being recorded is correct, but the name is from the previous show before I changed the channel.

If I continue to let LiveTV run the same thing will happen when the previous file reaches ~20mb. Then the screen will flash and a new file is created in the LiveTVBuffer folder named:
(Autorotica_2_20050202_18001900-3.mpg).

This will continue to happen with a new file being created with an incremented number at the end until I exit LiveTV.  If I return to LiveTV and don’t change the channel everything is fine.  It only happens after I change the channel.

This happens on the PC or using the MVP.

Anyone else notice this or have any ideas for a solution??

TipStir,

Thanks for the tips, but other then upgrading to the new version of GBPVR I have not made any changes to the way GBPVR stores files on the computer and it has worked great up to now.

I saw 2 other people that posted in the original v908 announcement thread that were also experiencing this problem.

FYI, I haven't looked at the file sizes yet, or checked out anything else that might be littering the drive, but last night noticed that Live TV would only run for 2 or 3 minutes before blanking the picture and restarting. Hitting the pause shows me on a new buffer, with no past to go back to, so it's obviously a new file. OTOH, I have not configured anything related to LiveTV, it's doing whatever it does "out of the box."

That sounds like the same problem. Watch your LiveTVBuffer folder when this is happening.

Keep me posted,

Just to confirm........

Same thing happening to me.

Upgraded over the top of the previous version.
Occurs when running on the MVP or directly on the box itself.

TipStir,

Start LiveTV and then switch channels a couple of times, then check your LiveTVBuffer folder and see if you get multiple ~20mb files showing up in it.

The problem doesn't happen unless you change the channel a couple of times quickly.

Thanks,

Tipster, it may be that whatever you're using (working on your new miniguide) is different from what we have. Basically, LiveTV works fine until you change channels, then it resets every couple of minutes or so, about 20MB worth of filespace. Even when I exited LiveTV and went back to a different channel using the TV Guide and the Watch button, it was stuck in 20MB intervals.  I have not tried the stop twice you suggested earlier, but that wouldn't help if I just wanted to use channel up or down while in LiveTV.

TipStir,

I have 1gb of ram!!

The problem only happens once you change the channel in LiveTV mode.

As far as the recording continuing, this only happens if you shut down GBPVR without exiting LiveTV first and going back to the menu.

I have experienced exactly the issue you mentioned while in Live TV. The only way that I have been able to use Live TV is to go first to the TV Guide and start Live TV by selecting the program that I want to watch from the guide. To change channels I hit the menu button to exit live TV then go back to the TV Guide and select another program. A round about way but it is functional until problem is fixed.

So far this is the only major problem that I have had with the new version. I have stayed with the Blue skin and made personal modifications there. I am also running plugins My Pictures, Shut Down, and Weather with no problems.

Tipstir,

You keep talking about all the tweaking that must be done in order to get GBPVR to function. I haven't had to do any of this stuff(previous to this release) and if I remember even Sub said he hasn't done any of the tweaking you talk about and he is the guy who wrote the program!!

Your tweaks are all valid and good but I would hope that most people don't have to jump through those hoops just to get GBPVR to work. I know some people are into tweaking there PC to the MAX and I used to be that way, but after 15 years of working with PC's I have kinda gotten used to having a stable reliable PC that just works.

I have no doubt that this is just a bug related to this latest "Not Ready for PrimeTime" update that Sub had to release do the EPG bug, even he said it really wasn't ready. I'm not worried, I am sure Sub will figure it out.

I just posted this to get some idea of how many people are affected by it or if I was the only one.

Thanks for the tips,
jjakober
