Well, they have my email, and my work mailing addy - don't really mind.

I also did a whois, and couldn't get to it either.
And 100 copies of Vista cost them what, $100? - including postage.

I'll take my chances (as the guy who sent it to me had already supplied my email to whoever is running it)

Found the IP address of the company where the "comp" is loacted - 202.20.64.30
WHOIS:
descr: Advantage Group E-Commerce Division
descr: 9 Wilkins Street, College Hill
descr: Auckland
country: NZ

A whois query results in a "Request Denied" response. The domain redirects to http://www.microsoft.com/nz/ though.

I would be willing to bet that the address in the email was spoofed. You can check the headers to determine the true origin of the email.

If you still have the email, view the SMTP header information then cut'n'paste it into a PM to me. I've reverse-engineered more scam e-mail than I can remember.

If you're using Outlook then you need to select the message and right-click 'Options'. Outlook Express is different -I think it's 'Properties' that shows the header. If you're not using either of those then work it out yourself. Smile

microsoft.co.nz??? Hmm. I thought all MS domains were just microsoft.com

Cheers,
Brian

Yeah, I would have been more dubious if they asked for DOB / CC number etc - but you seem to think that I am some bunny who hasn't used the internet before....
As I said, they have an email, and an office address - hardly the best ID fraud info....

Yeah, and I was mistaken re: microsoft.co.nz it was the microsoft.com/nz/ addy.
Also, Advantage Group - don't they own Baycorp or some other debt agency? (so maybe it is just collecting info)
