Indeed, the mac address I get is not the same as on the sticker.

While tipstir's network is likely more complex and harder to configure then most, it does lead me to ask if you are perhaps accidently plugging a cable into the WAN or Internet port and not keeping them all on the LAN switch side.
Martin
Everything is plugged properly.
My setup is: - Linksys router with DSL plugged in 'internet' port - Main PC running GBPVR (in 1st port) - 1 MVP (in 2nd port) - XBOX (in 3rd port) - Laptop (wireless) Every device can access each other and the internet. GBPVR is working fine with the MVP but I suspect that it's not running the configured dongle.bin. I have had that problem since I bought my MVP 8 months ago (never saw 'getting the preferred server' in my startup sequence) and at the time I had no xbox, laptop or dsl. Only a PC, MVP & router. Right now the Hauppauge Server is running on my laptop (instead of on the PC with GBPVR), mvpmc.bin renamed as dongle.bin in the hardware directory and I still cannot get it to start.

Everything your doing is correct.
The only other thing I can suggest is to go my web site http://www.mvpmc.org/~mvallevand/ and download the mvprelay for win32 tool for revision H machines All this does is acts as a beacon for the preferred server. You can run it on any PC (disable all GBPVR and Hauppauge services) and run it with this command line (the last parameter is the IP of the machine you are on. mvprelay32 16881 5906 6337 192.168.1.1 When the mvp powers up before the preferred screen you should see something like this. Replying to directory query from host 192.168.1.69 If this doesn't work the only other thing I can possibly think of is that you have port forwarding on the router inadvertently turned on and you probably will need to contact Hauppauge, assuming the router and cables are all ok if you even want to be able to load any dongle. wouldn't it be handy if you could load the dongle into flash?
would there be any benefit? other than avoiding the usual dhcp/config load problems?

I get 'Replying to directory query from host 192.168.1.100'
but I don't see (or never has seen) the preferred screen you're talking about. So I guess that there's a problem with my MVP. I'll try to see if it works on a completely different network and/or buy another one.

tony1234 Wrote:I get 'Replying to directory query from host 192.168.1.100' I wonder. Your GBPVR log showed your PC is 192.168.1.2 and so I would think it would be in the same range ie 102. If you are running a static IP maybe the subnet on your router and on your pc don't match. Martin

I had my router set to start giving IPs at 100. I've set it to start at 2 with the same result.
One thing I've noticed in the 'DHCP Active IP Table' of my router. The mvp hostname is garbage, something like '`ÃPÃðÃ' Is it supposed to show a readable hostname?

I see the odd hostname issue too but I don't think it's a problem. I've exhausted my ideas for the way to load the dongle though. I'd contact Hauppauge.
