This forum is pretty massive so I hope this question hasn't been answered too many times. I bought a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 150, put it in a pci slot, connected the coaxial cable to the wall, turned on the machine and then put the cd in and had it look and install the driver it found (Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II (26xxx) version 2.0.48.25037) and then I gave the GBR software an install (GBPVR10016). Under the playback tab config it is telling me that I have a Hauppauge 350 or none or Sigman designs when I'm sure it's a pvr 150. I am unable to get the gb-pvr to display channels and can only get the application to launch when i select none. When I select hauppauge 350 (closest to the one I have) it tells me that I don't have one and won't launch gb-pvr. When I use the Tuning Assistant tool and set it to Hauppauge PVR-150, USA, and Cable it successfully goes through the channels and I get a picture so I think the card itself is okay. It's probably something obvious. I get this when I run a devicetypedetect:

21:48:55.484 INFO Log started
21:48:55.484 VERBOSE ECP interface found

21:48:55.484 INFO Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture: model 26152
21:48:55.484 VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture
21:48:55.484 ERROR Failed to find requested device: Hauppauge PVR150 (instance 2)

I don't have powerdvd installed, I just use ffdshow and my x-fi for audio. I can go into all the settings. Can anyone help? Thanks

The value on the playback tab is only for using the TV-out on the PVR 350, which you don't have so should be set to none - software decoding.

You need to set up the PVR150 card under capture sources, and set up your EPG etc (have you done this?)

Then you can use the numbers that the tuning asisstant gives you in order to set up each channel on your system.

After this it should be good to go, and you may need to select a video decoder in the playback tab. (and also what options do you have for video decoder on the playback tab?)

Okay that makes sense. I think EPG is setup now. I went through zap2it and found the cable provider for my area and i'm getting channel listings now but no picture. I get audio but it seems really static. I think now I have a codec problem. I have ffdshow and ac3 filter installed but I think I need more than that, although it's surprising because the tv tuner app does give me a picture

get a good decoder...i recommend Dscaler..free..
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles..._id=123423
and set the decoder to this in config..
use mpeg audio decoder for audio..default for renderer...
then you should be set...

Hey, thanks for all the help! I've gotten a picture which looks good but the audio is still out of whack even when I tested it with dscaler. On channels I get a hissing noise when peoples voices hit high notes or when there is background noise. Voices sound normal per say minus the scratchy distortion. Any ideas?

Try running with AC3filter as your audio decoder, however this could be a poor signal / not tuned correctly? (I've never used a coax connection on my machine, so not really sure)

(ac3filter is free, google it)

Cheers

Thanks again for all the help. I do know what ac3 filter is. I think my audio part of my card is just messed up. I tried just about every audio decoder listed under the playback panel with every audio codec renderer and i still get very noticeable distortion.

http://www.thenerds.net/HAUPPAUGE_Hauppa....1045.html

"The audio on the 150 AUTOMATICALLY raised the volume actively seeking audio to record. You know that hiss you hear if you turn your speakers up too loud? Well I could hear that hiss while watching that movie sequence and VERY low levels." "... the entire audio track is recorded at levels bordering on distortion during volume peaks." "I really suspect that this is a quality control/ manufacturing hardware issue."

It sounds similar enough to what's happening to me that I may just do what he did and shell out for a newer model

Thanks again, next time around setup should take less time
