Sub recommended I ask for recommendations of the best mpeg2 decoder to download (any free ones?) I have pvr 150 and PVR wintv usb 2. When i watch high action, it is a little choppy. Please help so that i can watch sports on pvr [Image: smile.gif]

also, what bitrate should i set it to--and constant or variable?

My favorite so far is DScaler5. (even though it's still in beta)
http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net/
It deinterlaces everything for you and what's awesome is that it does 3:2 film detection automatically.

Install that along with this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloa....lang=en
Then use the second utility to set DScalar as your preferred MPEG2 decoder. In GBPvr, just use "system default" and you'll like the results. All other players that use "system default" will then use DScalar as well. This includes WMP.

For your recording:

Use this for bitrate references:
http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/tutorial/bitrate.html

I record at VBR, 6.5 average, 8 max and I'm pretty happy with the results.

So Descaler takes care of making the pictures look right on the computer or handles the decoding and presention through GBPVR better than the system defaults?

Try it and see...
The intervideo decoder that comes with the hauppauge cards does not do any kind of inverse telecine for 24fps stuff (film sources). You see a nasty jumping effect on horizontal pans when you playback primetime shows and movies because of this.

DScaler is an MPEG2 decoder as well as deinterlacer, but it's smarter than most.

I think you can accomplish the same thing with ffdshow, but I had some issues with discoloration with ffdshow so i experimented and I'm really impressed with DScaler even though it's really in the early stages.

DScaler5 does - it's built to work with DirectShow, not with the hardware. Sorry, I should have specified.

i tried all this and i don't feel i see a difference from the intervideo one. If anyone has a good one they use with sports or fast action, let me know. I have no idea how this stuff works. I just wish it were easier [Image: smile.gif]

Have you tried the latest version of the Hauppauge MPEG-2 decoder? You can get that here:

http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/...wsmd04.exe

Or, if you're feeling adventurous, you can try version 5 (I'm using it and I think it's great):

http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/...wsmd05.exe
GB-PVR v1.1.5, 1x Hauppauge PVR-150 (v.2.0.48.25037), 2x Hauppuage PVR-500MCE (v.2.0.48.25037), Athlon XP 2500+@3200+, 1GB DDR RAM, Diamond AMD Radeon HD2600 Pro 512MB DDR2 AGP (v7.7), NVIDIA nforce2 Ultra 400 Chipset (v5.10), Chaintech AV-710 (v500b), Windows XP Home w/SP2, Microsoft .NET 2.0, DirectX 9.0c (Aug '07), NVIDIA PureVideo decoders (v.1.02-223), SchedulesDirect, Dell 2405FPW; DVI

Is it just me or do they all look the same to me?? i tried both decoders from hauppauge, and the Dscaler one. Does it drop frames, is that why there is 'jitteriness' in sports?? Tivo doesn't do that, does it?
