Hello all.

I got my AVerMedia M780 set up with GBPVR for NTSC and ATSC the other day. Works great! I'd like to get the QAM channels working though, and avoid OTA if possible.

First issue I'm having - I don't know which input is for QAM! The instruction manual doesn't mention QAM, so I don't know which input I should be trying to use.

Second issue I'm having - I can't find any QAM channels on either input. Sad

I followed the directions in the following post to update my bda.ini (didn't have to change anything) and qam.ini file (did update the entries it mentioned).
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=28343

I then did a scan but found no channels, on either input.

To make sure I should be getting something I looked around and found the post below mentioning the QAM channels that are available in my area.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! I'm pretty happy that I'll finally be able to take back my Comcast DVR pretty soon! Smile

The QAM input should be the same input as the digital over the air (ATSC) I belive its the bottom one.
Have you tried the avermedia software to scan for QAM channels?
I havent tried searching for QAM for a while mainly because when I got the cad there was no QAM support, and I was unable to find QAM channels, but when I get home tonight I will check again

I just got done with my QAM scan in AVerMedia's application, and it found many QAM channels (I've not gone through them all to verify they are the same from the list).

Not sure why GBPVR is not picking them up. Sad

I seem to remember the guy who added the QAM entry say that he had to edit the QAM frequency file to add in channels that were not in it, also another thing to check on, see if you have the proper set of driver installed per the original post
I just saw that you update the QAM file, a possibility could be that you need to include other freq's
Unfortunately I was not able to check the QAM status of my system do to 6 hours of homework tonight
Ill try tommarow

I just set this up with comcast in portland. Still working through the kinks. Something ODD... i had to scan channels with avermedia application in order to get the GBPVR to pick up the QAM channels... and that kinda goes along with when i boot my machine in order to view any QAM in GBPVR, i must start the Avermedia center application first... like "starting the card"

but i have had some good luck so far, my biggest problem at the moment is 22GB football games in HD, seem to "break", skip and not play anymore, in the 3rd or fourth hours, After demux and muxing again the files are gtg

I turned off commskipp but i need to setup some more manual recordings for several hours to make sure its fixed (or wait till next sunday), but other than that this is the best solution for QAM and the M780, still many things i gotta fuss with.

now that your avermedia center is working. Turn your machine on, start avermedia center, put it on some hd channel that works (many found, wont work, and avermedia center is crappy, slow and reacts weird, just figure out which are abc, cbs, nbc, fox and delete the rest)

Close the application, open GBPVR config; make sure your BDA Recording Source settings are setup for AVerMediaMedia M780 (QAM). then do your scan.

thats my trick .. ..

the QAM/OTA coax port is the one on the left or bottom. looking at the back of your machine.

Shazam!

I actually did half of that by accident last night and found a bunch of channels in GBPVR. I did a second scan (not knowing your tip) after rebooting and didn't get any channels. Good to know that is the trick!

Do you just open AVerTV Media Center each time you reboot, or do you actually have to redo the scan?

Just open the AverMedia Center each time you boot; Once you setup your scan and channels in GBPVR you dont need to do it again.

it is important tho to make sure you open the Avermedia center when you boot because if you have recordings scheduled in GBPVR; they dont work Sad

ya it was a bit frustrating at first until i put 2 and 2 together. I would get GBPVR to work. then id reboot for whatever reason, then it wouldnt work, Id try to scan the channels and it found nothing...

Well my first attempt yielded partial results.

I scanned in the AVerTV MediaCenter and got a bunch of channels. Deleted all those that I did not get a signal from. I then ran a scan in GBPVR but only got a very small subset of those channels. Sad

I'm going to try again tonight. Hopefully my second time will give better results -- pain when it takes 20 minutes for both programs to scan the QAM range.

Is it possible to manually enter frequency and mapping data into GBPVR? I found a listing of channels in the MythTV Wiki that has all the information I would hope GBPVR would also need. I'm not adverse to typing this all in if it gets everything working. Smile
