Hi,

I've been having my GBPVR PC running 24/7 for the last year or so, and now I thought I might try to keep it in standby when it's not recording, to save a little on my electrical bill...
So, a couple of questions:
1. What exactly do I need to change in the GBPVR config to get this up and running? Is it enough just to check the "Wake up for EPG" box?
2. If I change my power settings so the PC goes into standby after 30 mins of inactivity, will GBPVR wake up for already pending recordings, or will it only affect those recordings that are scheduled after I change my power settings?
3. What really counts as inactivity? I mean, things are read from, and written to the HD all the time in one way or another by the OS, i.e. pure disk access doesn't necessarily mean there is "real" activity (or does it?), so how does GBPVR prevent the PC from going into standby in the middle of a recording?

TIA and thank's for a great piece of software, sub!

GB-PVR will already asking Windows to wake the machine for your recordings. Assuming you do your EPG update sometime in the middle of the night, then you'll probably want to check that box to make sure it'll wake up for EPG updates.

Yes, should wake for existing ones. For every scheduled recording that is created, GB-PVR will ask Windows to wake at that time - regardless of whether you've configured Windows to hibernate/standby after x minutes of inactivity (GB-PVR is not aware of this).

GB-PVR uses Windows APIs to tell it the system is still in use while you're watching video, or while it is recording.

It's wierd isn't it, and not well documented (that I could find anyway).
I've had my machine go into standby when it's been doing a defrag, so that can hardly be called 'inactive'.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Which APIs do you use for this? I've googled for something like this, but didn't find anything really good (maybe my keywords are badly chosen :o )

This may not be GBPVR related since it works fine waking up from hibernation to do recording.

However I have to hibernate it manually as I can't figure the Windows XP power settings to get it to do it automatically. I set it to Hibernate after 30mins of inactivity but it keeps going.

Have anyone got this working satisfactorily? What settings do you use?

Some people had problems with their machine not going to sleep with the current release until they applied this patch: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...ostcount=3

I can't get gbpvr to wake up the computer in the latest version 1.0.16. and Service Direct. Since zap2it stop offering its service , I had to go to this version. Wakeup/standby mode worked fine in version 1.0.8.
Using Hauppauge's software with Titan also works fine, but I rather use gbpvr.

Like the first poster, I've just recently tried using hibernate, and my computer will not wake-up for scheduled recordings. When I put the computer into hibernation, it looks identical to when I just shut it off, except for the screen that says it is hibernating, and it does it faster than a shutdown. The fans and drives stop, and all of the lights go off.

The only ways I can get it to turn back on are by pressing the power button, or by programming the RTC alarm in the bios to turn it back on at the desired time. Does this mean that there are settings in XP that need to be changed, or in the bios, or that my motherboard can't be woken by XP?

I'm curious about how to turn the machine back on manually when it is put to sleep. If I hit the "power" button on the remote the machine goes to sleep, but I can't seem to turn it back via the remote. I have to press the power button on the front of the machine.

Is there a setting somewhere that allows the remote to wake the system up?
