Oregon,

I've had some partial success with scanning the channels, but I'm running into a different really annoying problem.

If I am watching a QAM channel and I switch to an NTSC channel, my channel goes black. I can switch from NTSC->NTSC, NTSC->QAM, QAM->QAM, but I can't go QAM->NTSC -- the picture just dies at that point.

Did you ever see anything like this with you 780?

ya honestly i havnt gone that far... I am using AverTV to watch standard def.

really only using GBPVR to record HD stuff. I would guess it has something to do with initializing the card... but other than that no help for ya sorry.

it is important tho to make sure you open the Avermedia center when you boot because if you have recordings scheduled in GBPVR; they dont work Sad

I seem to have to start AverMedia Center each time I reboot, even after I have done my initial scan in GBPVR and mapped my channels. Do others experience this? Thanks.

Yup. I've since stopped using the input as a result. You can use it with ATSC without any trouble, but the QAM was just annoying. I picked up a HDHomeRun to handle my QAM and it works great (took a bit to install, but the instructions floating out on the web are good enough to get you through).

Eventually I'd like to get my system set up to stay on and hibernate when not in use, so this annoyance should be OK. But it would be nice if that weren't necessary.

Anyone solve this? I ran into the same thing last night, and now find this thread. Certainly it is just some initialization of the board. I looked at the drivers, and they are running upon boot, and no change after running media center. Seems like eventually some configuration will do it.

I found all channels with Aver TV6. This helped me find some hidden channels in GB that showed up as "unknown" but indeed were working. Then I had to manually enter the tuning parameters from the cache file, because some channels ended up in the preview pane with the same default name, and the left hand pane would only show one of each.

Now that I am up, the only pain is having to start AverMedia first.

I'm not aware of any special initialisation this device requires, and I dont have any contacts at AverMedia to ask. GB-PVR just treats all the devices the same, and assumes their drivers will automatically do any initialization required.

Thanks anyway. We'll keep an eye out, see if someone comes up with a solution.

Well, Aver says they will work on this issue. Something is clearly not initializing correctly in their driver. I note that SageTV also indicates the M780 does not work for clear QAM under XP MCE, but does for Vista. I suspect the same issue, waiting to hear form them.

In the meantime, I guess I have to start/stop Aver before using GBPVR each time machine boots.

Maybe Aver will come through
