so far, everything in the 100.## driver range has caused me problems.
I will try a different decoder & bump my nividia drivers back up & see if that makes it all better.

Ok using the latest nvidia drivers & purevideo for recording playback works perfect.

Using win-DVD decoder for playback is almost perfect.
There is some banding on panning shots but it's just enough for only me to notice.

The wife doesn't notice it at all.

I will try some of the free decoders for DVD to see if there is a difference.

Strangly my cpu usage is around 75 to 80 which seems high for the system.

1.4ghz tuatlan celeron.
512mb ram.
PCI 6200
720x480 res.

if cpu is high you are not using hardware decoding

purevideo is for playback by the way has nothing to do with recording

I feel silly now.
I think I forgot to tell winDVD to use hardware decoding in it's config.

I meant watching mpeg2 recordings off my server were flawless.
I don't actually have a tuner card in this system.
I can see where my post could lead people to think that.

I am confused... which is the latest nvidia driver? It seems to me I can only find forceware to download, is that what you mean? Still... in any way, could you tell us which version of the driver you are using?
I'm not always right
GB-PVR 1.2.9
Accent HT-400 Case, AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 1024MB, 1TB+300GB+180GB, WinXP Pro-SP2, NVidia 7600GT
Nova-T USB2, PVR-350 recording from Dilog 355 DVB-T box, USB-UIRT (receiving & transmitting)

Forceware is a combination of the driver & the config panel as far as I know.
Just like the catlyst control panel for AMD contains the drivers.
the only difference is you can download ATI's driver seperatly.

I'm using

ForceWare Release 163
Version: 163.71 WHQL drivers.

A bit of advice, My system crashed when I installed the latest driver.
I'm sure this had to do with the version differences being so far apart. (I was using whatever driver installed with XP)

I had to boot up in safe mode & uninstall everything then run Driver cleaner.
I had it on my network.
I think I downloaded the last free version so you may need to search for it.

Once I removed all the remnants & rebooted I was able to install the latest driver without issue.

Edit: While PVRx2 does work with my hardware, the CPU is just too high. Much higher than just win-DVD.
I believe it has more to do with the PCI interface of my Nvidia card than the CPU.
Using GBPVR.EXE with overlay puts my CPU usage at 10 to 20% then a jump up to about %30 when the OSD comes on.

My other Client PC is a 1.2ghzt P3 with a radeon 9550 AGP & with PVRX2 I see 40 to 60% cpu. Still lower than the one with the pci 6200.

with FSE your cpu will drop to like 20%
running just normal no fse mines like 50%
6800pcie nvidia
hardware accel on in both
only difference is the Fse

that is a big difference hence the reason the picture is way better
but WHY????anyone care to explain
