thats the what wait for vertical sync fixes (like the picture has been cut and moveed slightly left or right can be more than one line)

the funny lines is more like bad reception or blurring of the picture

dont worry im no expert people will disagree feel free to tell me im wrong
im happy to be wrong when it means i get a better picture

Ok... so maybe the drivers had different default values for "wait for vertical sync", then...

Yes. Well, good enough for me... I don't get annoyed Smile It's just as good as it was before my upgrade. I can still see some occasional hiccups during panning, but with the newest driver it was horrible.

mine changes between programs so im probably trying to fix something outside my control
but it does seem the olders drivers are more forgiving
the other thing with the new drivers is to tell the card which monitor to use the hardware acceleration on i would say alot of people miss that setting aswell

stefan Wrote:This sounds like th quartz.dll bug. There seems to be two solutions nowadays: downgrade quartz.dll, or apply a microsoft hotfix. Both the solutions are on here somewhere (the first is found in the thread "Disappointing mpeg decoding" thread: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=5600

Stefan!

Thanks for reminding me, I'd changed it once... somehow it had been updated again.

On my travels I've found a Microsoft Hotfix which handles updating Quartz.dll correctly to a version which works !

maybe its just my card but i cant see how any off the game technology would ever work with an mpeg (just my opinion)

the 3d settings are all there to make the edges of the pictures less stepped and mpeg is already a photo of reasonable quality(higher resolution than most tvs) whats the point in trying to make the egdes any better
the transistions between pictures is taken care of by the wait for vertical sync (locked the frequency to the desktop refresh rate)so for pal that would be multiples of 25 and for ntsc it would be 30

so thats the reasons to my madness
all i want is smooth panning shots digital media SUCKS for this

hmm... I don't have any tearing in panning shots... no teethcomb patterns..

a good test is always to bring up a channel with one of those tickers at the bottom.. if its sharp and smooth and doesn't stutter, you have a winner. (most of the time)

and i'll disagree with you on the MPEG2 quality issue.. well, I suppose you're using a standard-def TV? For anyone using a HDTV, the MPEG2 at 720x480 interlaced (or x576) is crap compared to what you're outputting (probably 720p or higher).

i had to read that a couple of times im not disagreeing with you there
the problem is its the interlacing get rid of that and video playback would be great on mpeg
so when they introduced digital media why didnt they just do away with interlacing that would fix the problem right there

Well the problem is most of us are using analog broadcasts that are interlaced, so we have to rely on de-interlacing techniques of our MPEG2 decoders.. and to give them credit, they do an incredible job if it's set up correctly.

Digital media has indeed moved on from interlacing, because it's a phantom of the past that was a genius plan back when bandwidth in the analog world was at a premium. VCDs, DVDs, and streaming media all support and are now overwhelmingly progressive content.

If you were to use digital input for your PVR setup (ATSC, DVB-T, etc.) instead of analog, then you will find that it looks absolutely fantastic. Even with my satellite STB hooked up to my pvr-150's S-Video input, I can't complain because I've got my PVR output looking better than if I just had my STB hooked up directly to my TV. Why? Because I get to tweak all the settings myself on my PC. Smile
