Sound way off on recorded show

I am using the Cyberlink v5.0.1307 mux. In most cases, it seems to be fine. However, I have found that "live action" like football, baseball, and NASCAR, the sound is delayed. These shows are typically 3-4 hours. At the beginning, there is a slight delay, perhaps a second at most. By the end, the sound is delayed by 5-6 seconds.

I am running an Aver m780 card, and recording 1080i clear qam channels for these shows. Much of my other recordings are on CBS, which does not have clear qam HD, so it is in SD (480p I think), and these are fine for 1-hour shows.

I have the latest gbpvr (downloaded yesterday, plus all the patches form the survival guide. However, this was happening on the prior version as well.

I found in the past that using the dvr-ms mux eliminated the problem. However, I never got Comskip to work live (works just fine post-processing), so I went back to Cyberlink. Had same delayed speech issue with "native" mux.

I don't know if it is all 1080i programs or just live action, but I believe it is just the live action shows.

I don't know which is worse, delayed voice or no Comskip. I'll play with dvr-ms tonight on another football game. Initially I do not see comskip starting to run. Either fixing the delay or getting Comskip to go live would do me.

if you use time shifting this goes away (well the sync issue did on mine)
i know you dont want to use time shifting

i thought you meant watching live i re read what you said
if you pause for a second t hen start again does it get better for a while?

By time shifting, I reckon you mean go to "watch" program, then pause and go.

I am essentially doing that but cannot be around (or don't want to be around) for the beginning of the show, I want it to get a good hour ahead, since games have lots of breaks. So, I set a recording time, and then start watching it before it is over in real time.

Plus, isn't time shifting limited to a 1-hour buffer? Maybe that is where the problem lies?

what i was meaning in the second part that i added was that if you pause it say after 2 hours does the sync issue get any better or does it stay bad ?

I tried pause, stop, went back to TV guide. Then hit play (it did not offer me "resume", that feature seems sporadic or I do not know how to exit into a state that allows resume). I used the mouse to move the OSD to the point at which I left off, and the shift in audio was still just as bad.

I think that is what you are saying to try.

I also tried playing the mpeg file in WMP, and it still had the shift, so I am certain the problem is upon recording (mux problem?)

Sorry but most ATSC users have found they have to stick with the DVR-MS mux to get reliable high def recordings.

This seems like a really minor thing to be concerned about. Why dont you just run it post processing?

Because I am impatient. I am essentially using it (often) to start watching a show late, allowing me to skip commercials. However, I usually start watching before the show is over.

I can live without it, but have really enjoyed Comskip. The comskip forum indicates taht it should work live with dvr-ms, but I do see a few others fighting this. Solving that is probably the better way to spend my time, though. I started a separate thread (or tacked on to one).

So, since you are saying dvr-ms is the better way to go, we'll just call this delayed sound "solved" by going to dvr-ms.
