Sorry, I may have confused things in one post by posting the incorrect decoder name (the screenshot I posted was from this incorrect decoder aswell). The decoder I'm talking about is called "Microsoft MPEG-2 Video Decoder"

1.what version gbpvr are you using?
- Just upgraded to version 1.1.5 (and used previous versions back to 0.99)

2.are you using pvrx2?
- Yes, with "abovenormal" priority and -FSE command line switch. Also use GBPVR sometimes for testing "Overlay" rendering and codec use

3.what nvidia card you use ?
- Palit sonic 7300GT 256mB DDR3, with fan undervolted to 5V (makes it quiet). Also have used Inno3d FX5500 128-bit 128mB but wasn't *quite* up to the job on high resolution 100" widescreen projector

4.what version driver are you using ?
- 163.75

5.what mpeg decoder do you use?
- Have used NVidia Purevideo Platinum, Cyberlink and Intervideo. Currently using Intervideo

6.are you panning shots smooth ?
- Yes. And believe me, running on a 100" widescreen high-definition projector I notice every video glitch (my wife doesn't though). It's now as smooth as playing the same DVD on a standard DVD player. BTW pan shots don't always seem to be recorded smooth anyway for some reason, which can be confusing, something to do with frame rates I think. I spent ages trying to get rid of jerkiness on one DVD only to find it was already better than on the standard DVD player. Non-PVR Reference sources are a good idea for comparison!

anything else that you might want to add or comment on

It's not smooth if I don't use the -FSE switch.

My desire to get it smooth was why I upgraded to the 7300GT DDR3; smoothness can be further improved by dropping or removing in order of effect) antialiasing, then anisotropic filtering. Tearing can be reduced by forcing horizontal sync on. I could *almost* get the FX5500 smooth with antialiasing and anisotropic filtering off and horizontal sync on, but it just wasn't *quite* there. The 7300GT is smooth at it's default standard settings, using highest it's quality 3d mode (set by preview) without the need to tinker with the 3D settings.

The config file that was released with 1.1.5 had the wrong microsoft mpeg decoder listed maybe?

but your saying you can only get it with vista
might have to do a search on the vista machine to see if i can find it then register on the xp machine see if it works (probably wont but worth a try)

No, it didnt have it listed at all. I've added it for the next release.

You'll probably be able to do that. I'm not sure if Microsoft ship the decoder with any other products.

This decoder is DXVA 2.0 enabled, so may be giving more benefit on Vista than you'd get with XP.

I was thinking about how to get that MPEG-2 Decoder frtom Vista into XP, so I had a little hunt around. It seems others have tried to take it from Vista to XP and register it in XP, with no success. I believe the files in question are MSMPEG2VDEC.DLL and msmpeg2adec.dll.

If anyone succeeds I'd be interested to hear how you got it working.

I also get the Purevideo icon on the task bar. Here's an extract from the logs that might be useful

this is what is in config
MPEG Video Decoder</SupportedDecoders>

so the mpeg1 decoder shows up but im guessing its unable to play mpeg2 files
so it uses the next one available which if you have pure video installed it woiuld normally use that or which ever one takes over the default position on your system

You need to add "Microsoft MPEG-2 Video Decoder" in the SupportedDecoders line, and then it will show up in the config if it's available. I've got Vista Home premium and tried it out, and it works fine here. Can't see much difference between this one, CyberLink, and Purevideo...

but why does every decoder take at least 5 seconds to channel change (and this is on a new Dual-Core machine with 2 GB of RAM and SATA drives).. I just don't get why the performance is so bad. Oh well. Maybe hardly no one else uses only timeshifting mode like I do.. lol

Hi,

1.what version gbpvr are you using?
- 1.1.5
2.are you using pvrx2?
- Yes (with fse, high priority, although I haven't notice any improvement with either)
3.what nvidia card you use ?
- MX 440
4.what version driver are you using ?
- 93.72
5.what mpeg decoder do you use?
- Intervideo
6.are you panning shots smooth ?
- No

I've been having problems with "tearing" with this MX 440 since I first got the card. The -fse switch does noting to improve matters for me. I've also enables "Vertical Sync" on the Nvida menu, disabled Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropis filtering to no effect.

Anyone got any tips? I've heard rumours of a "Horizontal Sync" switch, but can't find it even with coolbits2 installed.

Thanks
