Oh sorry, forgot about that.

I have a PAL TV set connected using S-Video. The resolution is currently set to 800x600 @ 60Hz, it makes no improvement to switch to 720x576 @ 50Hz.

I've never had good luck with Intervideo. Give DScaler decoders a try if you haven't already, and Cyberlink also. DScaler often can work when others don't. Smile I remember DScaler and PureVideo were the only ones that gave me good playback on my SDTV.

make sure you are using a interlaced signal if its a standard tv

even though my panasonic tv is meant to be prgressive scan i get a way smoother picture with interlaced ticked in advanced settings

Well, I'm back again. Big Grin

I can report that using the DScaler decoders makes a dramatic improvement to all of the video issues I've been having. Touch wood, I think DScaler has in fact solved the video issues.

But.... Big Grin

Now I have developed a new problem. Just in the last day or two PVRX2 has developed these wierd random "dashes" in the video. The best way to describe them is like random underscores _ darting about all over the video and occasionally in the PVRX2 menu. Windows itself and WMP / PowerDVD are not affected.

Also, to add to the mystery, it only happens on the 800x600 resolution. I've reset all the video drivers and that (not that I made any changes) but my only workaround has been to use a different resolution.

Anyone had this before?

Thanks

Yeah, try changing drivers.. but also try these things before you do that:

In the DScaler decoder properties, change the output colorspace to NV12, and uncheck analog blanking.

This is my GBPVR Server.
I took the 9550 I had in it out because I never watch TV on it.
Just for the heck of it I tried the GF 2 I put into it ran the PVRx2 interface which surprised me.

1.what version gbpvr are you using? -1.016
2.are you using pvrx2? - yes
3.what nvidia card you use ? Gforce 2 mx400
4.what version driver are you using ? 93.71
5.what mpeg decoder do you use? Intervideo WinDVD (I forget the version)
6.are your panning shots smooth ? Depends on who you ask Big Grin My wife says it looks fine. I say it could be better.
Though the 2.65 ghz celeron D cpu works really hard. (about %80 cpu)

Hi,

Thanks for those suggestions which I have implemented. Unfortunately they don't resolve the 800x600 issue. I tried to capture the problem (with both Print Screen and TightVNC, with no success). I also use the 93.71 drivers.

Looks like I'll just have to stick to 720x576 (which is a more logical resolution anyway) and change the resolution when I use the machine for other work.

It's really strange that this problem just developed at random without me altering the machine.

I've recently started using remote desktop connection. I still use VNC for when my machine is in GBPVR mode (because VMR9 is not available in remote desktop mode and because the remote desktop session 'logs out' the local session. However, for other work remote desktop is a lot more suitable and it has the added advantage that it automatically adapts to the screen resolution of the machine you're working from, without changing the native resolution. The only thing you have to do after using the remote desktop is to use VNC to 're-login' the local session.

Depending on what "other work" you do, I might not be able to argue with you on that one Wink

I use tightVNC, and I haven't noticed any resolution problems. In fact, my server has to desktops with different resolutions, and it handles that quite well, too Smile
