I use tightVNC, and I haven't noticed any resolution problems. In fact, my server has to desktops with different resolutions, and it handles that quite well, too Smile

My GBPVR runs as 720x576 because I cannot get my nVidia 6150 card to scale down higher resolutions on component output. If any has this working, I really would like to know the configuration/driver versions/etc.

Anyway, the 720x576 is perfectly ok for watching recordings on the TV, but not much use for anything else (which is what 'other work' is in my case Wink ). So I use tightVNC for remotely operating GBPVR (although typically I use just the remote) and remote desktop for anything else. I just wanted to point out that both have their merits, under different circumstances. VNC is nice if you want to remotely manipulate the 'same' screen, wherease remote desktop is nice if you just want to operate your media center as a regular computer.

Just thought I'd report in again.. as a test I decided to go into the NVIDIA control panel and set aggressive 3D quality settings (high anistotropic and antialiasing, and pretty much setting everything to the highest possible quality setting, and turning on vertical sync).. I once again tried all the decoders.. and got the best result with PureVideo decoders set to Smart and VMR pixel adaptive deinterlacing. (Using Vista HP)

The only thing I hate about PureVideo and most of the others are that they are very bad at changing channels.. they first freeze for a second or two, and then the video speeds up like its running at 1000fps for a second and then stops again before becoming normal. The ONLY decoder I've ever found that didn't have this funky behavior is DScaler. Smile It does the job perfectly. I guess this is a problem with the decoders not behaving with the GB-PVR Parser?

having said that, with high quality settings, PureVideo with pixel adaptive looks very nice.

Would love to know if anyone has nVidia working, 100% tear-free, without using FSE mode.

Have tried everything. Different codecs, interlace this, vsync that but they all still tear unless I use FSE.

Have just about struggled through the FSE problems now I spose but would much prefer not to have to use it.

In my attempt to understand what tearing is and what is tear-free, I found this link: http://uspto.gov/web/patents/patog/week2...70529.html
and http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Intel_G3...3_Chipsets
It didn't answer my question as to what tearing is, but I thought it might help those who are more computer savy than I.

My nvidea ti4600 was working very nicely until recently. I don't think I have fse in place because I remember that I didn't quite understand how to add it or how to know if I needed it. If you tell me how to tell if I have it enabled, I will check. Currently, the picture is fine most of the time. If the computer is recording two shows and I am watching a pre-recorded program, I will get jerkiness which I attribute to too much activity for the CPU that I have. Also, I sometimes get freezing that is only fixed by a reboot. This seems to be occurring with all my video decoders:Nero, InterVideo NonCSS, GPLMepeg1/2, Mpeg and HCWMpeg2. I am currently trying to test if one works better than the others. Finally, sometimes when I exit pvrx2, the image on the TV remains and I can only clear the screen by logging off.

Mine works fine now without FSE. I've had to fiddle a lot with the settings, especially drivers (had to go back to something like 93.x (it's in this thread somewhere)), and settings regarding primary/secondary monitor...
