So far in my setting up I have 2 Nova-T cards and they work fine. Now I am adding a Satellite card.

It's a Compro VideoMate S350 - I've added it to the BDA file and I've got it as a capture source.

I've picked up my existing EPG as I know my sat is pointing to Astra and it has BBC channels which are also in my EPG - I can fix the EPG later but I expect to get something.

Now when I do a scan for mapping the channels I get a load of "Unknown" and they don't play in the little preview window.

I guess I am missing some vital step, but what is it. Is there are file that gives the channel names?

Just to make sure its not the card itself I can use the program that came with it to view channels (although it is a bit stuttery).

cheers

1who set up the sat dish ? does it work ok with settop box and is the signal strength good?
if its crap with program that came with it gbpvr will not improve this in my case it actually got worse
2 is it pointing at the correct sat?
3have you selected the correct sat in the drop down list ?
4have you selected the correct lnb settings for your lnb this is important if you have this wrong then you will get strange results (i have been there Smile )

What channels do you get over and above normal digital terrestrial channels?.

Are any of the FTV channels HD?

1. I did - its good with the STB for most of the sats visible from where it is.
2. The program that came with it was not smooth but it did give me a picture/sound/channel name !!
3. yep - I have Astra 2 at 28.2E
4. The settings match what are in the program that came with the card - I can't find any other settings!

I just get Unknown1, Unknown2 Unknown3 .... up to 6 repeated in the listing.

any other ideas? I'm at a loss!

Cheers

Hi Caseyjones

With the media center no channels yet Sad

But there are quite a lot of channels, hundreds - thousands, I have a motorised dish and with the STB there are tons of channels. 99% are rubbish but the sat version of the terestrial are better quality and there are pay channels for special interest, football, etc, or foreign channels if your not English speaking (our reason for having it).
But most of the time we use terrestrial - and at present rarly turn the sat on.

No HD channels that are any use yet - I don't have a HD receiver! Not sure if they are FTA.

What should LNB switch MHz be?

The default is 11700

What is the 22KHz that I have found menthioned in teh STB setup, is that related?

cheers

It really depends on your LNB.

Its hard to guess what context your STB is using "22KHz" in but this usually refers to dual LNB setups that have a 22KHz Switch. The DVB-S card can then say which LNB it wants by either sending a 22KHz signal or not.

to get lnb setting either get up on the roof or where ever your dish is and have alook
or see what your set top box is set to it should be on the same screen you found the 22khz switch

I will double check but I'm sure that the default is correct.
