I am currently experiencing a weird issue. I now have an htpc hooked up to an LCD HDTV via a DVI-HDMI cable from a nvidia 7600GS graphics card. I have also experienced this while hooked up using the nvidia 7050PV onboard video via HDMI. This has not been an issue when I used the analog VGA connector from the onboard video (havent checked with the 7600GS but i assume its a digital only problem).

succinctly, if i turn off my HDTV for an extended period of time (say 20m or more) when i turn it back on the digital signal from the htpc graphics card has stopped. the computer is not sleeping and i have the power settings set to never turn the monitor off. The only way to fix the problem is to restart the computer.

upon searching google i see that i am not alone in this problem, though no one has come up with a good answer. im hoping someone here has a suggestion or two because this is pretty annoying.

You might try hibernator and create a command file that disable and re-enables you graphics card when coming out of sleep.

I will look into it because Im sure in the future it will make financial/green sense to let the htpc go into sleep mode, but for now I have the computer set to never sleep and never turn the monitor off, which is why i am a little confused as to why this is happening.

I don't know too much about it - but I wonder if the Nvidia graphics is trying tyo refresh the EDID data from the display, and when it cannot (because it's off) it says that there is nothing connected.

Can you disable EDID information or something like that in the graphics setup?

i am using forceware 169.21. i didnt change drivers when switching from the onboard 7050PV onboard graphics and the 7600GS

playing around tonight I found out it also does the same thing when the computer is put to sleep and then turned back on. the input was changed from the htpc before it went to sleep, but was back on the hdmi input when i took it out of sleep.

ill try to figure out how to stop polling for EDID information, but a quick google search doesnt seem to have any easy answers.

i would try a different driver on the nvidia site it actually says there was a problem with the series 7 and hot pluging dvi might be a different issue but thats where i would start

sounds like a plan. you don't happen to have a recommendation for which forceware package to use do you?

guru3d seems to have the best selection of old drivers, but the real question is how far back i should go...

I dont want to start to celebrate until i am sure tomorrow morning (as the htpc sits with the HDTV off all night) but preliminary testing is suggesting that going back to 101.09 is doing the trick. the television has been on all evening, but turned to the component input watching the cable box and every time i switch back to the computer (after 20m, 30m, 1h, 3.5h) the video card has been sending signal with no problem.

if this is still working tomorrow i owe you many thanks stustunz
