Does anyone know of a software method for defeating the activity LED of a DVD drive?

if it matters I have an Asus DRW-2013L1T drive.

Ive tried googling and couldnt find anything, im just trying to avoid opening my box up again, though i have these three potential solutions:

1) small piece of electrical tape (a bit cheap looking)

2) stealth modding the dvd drive (on an NSK2480, im planning on doing it but have been lazy thus far)

3) taking the drive out and physically disconnecting the LED from any power source.

all of these would take more physical effort than i would like to put into it so i am hoping there is a software solution.

Other than the tape method why not just paint over it? easy cheap and quick.

that is true, though i dont think i have any black paint handy. i guess ill just cut a little piece of electrical tape temporarily and then stealth mod the drive.

Just take it apart and crack the (probably) surface mount LED off the board with a little screwdriver. If it's a bigger LED, just snip the wires. DVD drives only cost £20, so do big deal if it goes drastically wrong.

I've used black automotive touch-up paint. I'm not sure why I had as I've never owned a black car but it worked like champ.
