This kind of sounds like the quartz.dll problem.

Sounds similar but not quite the same. I did experience the quartz.dll problem and resolved it with the MS patch. That problem caused some jittering or stuttering, but did not lock up and stop play. This problem causes the display to stop or jump by seconds at a time and only happens when you are in timeshifting mode.

Okay, I'll give that a shot - I don't think I tried the ATI Decoder. It would make sense since Sub mentioned that motion blur is a playback issue.
