i do not seem to have a timeshifted log - what is the exact filename and location? the screenshot i supplied in post #157 contains graph1.gif. that is the graph i am using for recording/timeshifting. and yes, i can playback recorded files just fine. in fact, i can begin recording a program, then wait a minute for gbpvr to record, then i can begin watching the recording in progress. i just can't enter timeshift mode directly for some reason.

By timeshifted - what I mean is a log where you don't use live preview mode and hit pause but start a program already timeshifting. The other log loads the graph - says its playing and then just cuts off so I can't tell anything from that. But when you do timeshifting from the start it actually does filesize checks and other things after the graph is loaded so I thought the extra logging might help. I'll need the recording service log for this,

I went back and looked at the graph it looks fine as far as I can tell (as long as sounds is working in your recording - that looked a little funky with the audio crossbar going nowhere)

yeah, i am just capturing sound from the soundcard. i haven't been able to get the audio crossbar to do anything productive.

attached is a new log. i experiment around a lot with settings so please ignore most entries (they are usually bad recordings). i recorded the last 25 minutes of "red dragon" with proven settings and began playing the movie within a couple minutes after setting it to record. i didn't experience any problems. please refer to this recording when making any conclusions.

the "browse" button seems to be broken for inputing the timeshifting graph in the settings dialog of 1.7. i am forced to cut and paste the path into the field. the browse button works just fine for inputting all other graphs. can you confirm this or is it just me?

I think you misunderstood me - I don't want the logs of a successful record or where you are watching live preview and hit record or pause. I need the logs where you have:
Enabled log flushing (General Tab)
Disabled - Use Live Preview Mode if Possible
And tried to watch a channel.

Thanks and sorry for the confusion - this one is tough since if you can record a show and then watch it after its recording seemingly everything should work as thats pretty much what timeshifting does.

okay, i "fixed" the problem! apparently either gbpvr or graphrecorder assume the presence of a c:\temp folder. once i manually added the folder, i could timeshift normally. someone should probably write a snippet of code to automatically create "c:\temp" if it doesn't already exist.

but, i've encountered a new problem... actually i've noticed it for awhile now. *often* after terminating a recording/timeshift/preview, the card will no longer display channels until i restart the computer or wait about 10 minutes. i can tell from the audio that the card is tuning to a new channel but absolutely no video is available. when i try to troubleshoot by launching graphedit, i notice that the "video decoder out" pin on my tv card crossbar will no longer attach to any combination of filters (normally, it should attach to my wintv capture filter). i have encountered this problem before with *some* software that use the WDM drivers. once, the pin corrupts (for lack of a better explanation) no program can render a video graph until i wait 10 minutes or restart windows. programs that access the hardware directly (like dscaler) do not encounter such problems and can continue tuning just fine even when WDM programs cannot. does anyone have any idea of what could be going on here?

That directory is one of the settings in the config app - you might want to check them all if you missed that one. :0)

If other graph applications have the same issue I am not sure if there is anything I can do to fix it it may just be your device driver. It should be ready to use after the graph is taken town. Live preview doesn't actually tear the graph down but retunes.

yeah, i realize that it was a shot in the dark but i thought someone might have known why it was happening. i probably should just buy a new card - i would have done it before but i have an irresistible urge to fix problems even if there is a quicker and easier way out. now that i've figured out the puzzle, i guess i can buy a new card! Smile i'm emailing hauppauge tech support about their wdm drivers but they usually just respond with a single sentence that is always unhelpful. it is infuriating. the btwincap drivers are an alternative but i get a bsod after installation.

anyway, i just wanted to thank you for your time and all the help troubleshooting this with me. graphrecorder is really perfect for anyone with compatability issues. keep up the great work!

Thanks for the thanks, sorry it didn't work out. If its anyone consolation I have a hauppage 1600 although most of my recordings are firewire off a hd stb (through the plug-in)
