Having some strange behavior in client mode when playing back recorded content that maybe you can shed some light on...

When setup as file-sharing, on the client, I can view HD content from the server just fine, but SD is very jerky, audio out-of-sync, sometimes the video just freezes, and the audio continues...

When setup as streaming, SD plays perfectly, but HD is jerky, but not as bad as SD in the file-sharing mode (still not acceptable for viewing though).

I have tried just about every combination of PreferredMpegPlaybackDemux, have tweaked the ClientModeCachedReadSize setting and just about every thing else I can think of.

Any reason why in file-sharing HD is good, SD is bad, and in streaming HD is bad, but SD is good?

Would there be any way to specify playing HD content as file-share, but SD as streaming?

I'm not really sure. Both file-sharing and streaming seem ok for SD here. I've never tested with HD, but I am aware that several people have problems doing HD with it. Hopefully one day I'll find some spare time to look into it.

how is your network speed? when you copy a big file over it, what's the max % of bandwidth used? if not over 50% then you need the Tcp1323Opts reg tweaks...

without them i only get about 30-40% utilization and sometimes stutters on HD..
otherwise, i do both HD and SD no problem over my 100 net..

Tcp1323Opts are extensions to the win tcp stack to enable larger packets for video,etc..

here's my reg file to add them...reboot may/may not be needed..
disabletaskoffload sets network card's processor on for some net duties..

Code:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]
"TcpWindowSize"=dword:000f4240
"Tcp1323Opts"=dword:00000001
"DisableTaskOffload"=dword:00000001
oh and needs to be done on both sides to work..

I've used TCPOptimizer on both machines, but I will compare that with the settings you suggest.

Thanks.

it's probably the tcp optimizer...they do all sorts of weird things...
this leaves everything as is and only adds a new protocol..Smile

you know M$ sucks when people end up making a small linux computer on a card as a network accelerated adapter!
[it's a whole linux computer and tcp stack to use instead of ms one, built onto the network adapter, excellent for gamers and anyone else..2x times more efficient]

This fixed my wireless streaming from the HDHomeRun. Thanks!

you're quite welcome...took me a while to weed out the nonsense to keep only the parts that made a difference...makes net file transfers almost double!

basically it's an extension to tcp that is for large files, and mostly one way communication...auto-senses and kicks in only when needed and both sides are setup for it..
once i found out the info behind how it works, i knew this was the only good part that made any difference....[that and the task offload stuff]
i bet it makes gigabit fly...hehe

a must on all my systems now..Big Grin
