It was happening to me and I suspected a virus, etc. When we checked, I found a program called clearner.exe that I may have installed thinking it would clean up broken files, etc. However, the one I had seemed to attack everything and things came to a head when it attacked my firewall. I deleted it but I still get the occasional mysterious deletes - such as sndvol which caused grief with my sound. Although I don't know what is causing it, I am sure the muncher is still there; it just isn't as active anymore.
I wish you luck in finding your muncher.

Now my drivers have uninstalled themselves yet again. Once more I have done NOTHING, I haven't changed the software or hardware configuration of this machine WHATSOEVER in the last month. I don't have any 'cleanup' programs either.
