I thought the title might get your attention
Anyway, I am an idiot as you can read below, but the warning is for everyone to be aware of a rather dangerous operation you can do in PVRx2: deleting whole folders.
Here's the story:
I had just watched a recording that I transcoded in the video library. So I wanted to remove the original mpg as it was now replaced by an avi. I went to the left menu and selected the remove operation, clicked enter on the remote and another enter to confirm. So far, so good.
The cursor in the file list (right menu) was now on my "movies" folder, but the real cursor was still on the remove operation (left menu). I meant to go back to the main menu, by pressing the esc button, but accidentally pressed the enter button again. The confirmation screen came up, and you can guess by now what I did - hurried idiot that I am - I pressed the enter button again.
The result: the whole movies folder and all twentysomething movie files in it were deleted. I immediately realised what I'd done, exited PVRx2 and tried to rescue the files with the excellent "Undelete-Plus" program, but the damage was already done: I could only salvage four of the files .
Now for the strange thing: the drive is an NTFS drive and the folders are all read-only. Still this did not prevent disaster. In addition, there is no Security tab in the File properties, even though it is an XP Pro installation. I'll have to look into this, because I'm sure you can turn that on and I definitely want to prevent this from ever happening again.
To all: let my stupidity be a lesson to never click away a dialog without reading it and be aware of this functionality and protect your folders.
To sub: do you think it is a good idea to change PVRx2 in such a way that it refuses to delete a non-empty folder; you can always do so in the windows explorer. Or maybe change the video library menu so that it is similar to the recording menu?
PS: I would also like it when the selection color for the left menu becomes the bright green (or red?) that is also used for the right menu, rather than the current blue. Can I change this using the skin files?
PS2: Sorry for the longish post...
