About 11am today I logged onto my home computer from work, opened up the config app checked a setting and hit cancel. Later on that night, much to my surprise, the recording service was not running and I missed the first half of 24 (time to find a torrent Wink)

So, is this intended behavior? Also, later on this evening, my wife was watching a prerecorded show (which means this software rocks -- if she can do it herself) and I again opened the config app, took a look at a setting, and hit cancel. This also killed the service and the MVP reset itself (wife NOT impressed with the "gadget" at this point).

Here is the log ending at 11:00AM :

Code:
4/25/2005 11:01:03 AM.296    INFO    [635]    GB-PVR Recording Service stopping
4/25/2005 11:01:03 AM.359    INFO    [35]    RecordingManager has been signalled to shutdown
4/25/2005 11:01:03 AM.359    INFO    [35]    RecordingManager has finished
4/25/2005 11:01:04 AM.515    INFO    [635]    GB-PVR Recording Service shutdown complete
4/25/2005 11:01:04 AM.531    INFO    [630]    Finalize called

...and the next log does not begin until 9:18PM when I manually restart the service (18 minutes into "24"). Sad

Yep, thats not right...

If you manage to find a reproducible set of steps, let me know and I'll correct the issue for the next release.

All I did was:

Open config.exe
Click the cancel button.

I just repeated it again and the gbpvrrecordingservice.exe.log reports that the service was shut down. Note that I am running an older version (see my sig)

I think 0911 had a bug about goofing around outside GB while watching/recording. Try the new version.

I'll try this tonight to check.

I've not been able to reproduce this specific error. Obviously clicking the 'ok' button restarts the recording service, but clicking 'cancel' doesnt seem to stop my in-progress recording

It might be worth upgrading incase it was related to this older build (I dont remember fixing anything related to this though).

I do plan on upgrading soon - it's just a matter of me figuring out how to NOT lose any recordings, data, etc.

You should be able to if you backup your gbpvr.mdb and your config.xml, and put them back into the gbpvr folder after upgrading.

I asked Sub about this recently. He said it was a bad idea seeing as there are changes made to these files between releases. What he suggested was backing up the gbpvr folder and upgrading over the old installation. This way if things go wrong you can allways go back the previous version with your old mdb and xml files and the upgrade changes the 2 files as needed.

Just copying the files over the top of the new installation can produce strange errors. Do you need strange errors or do you want it to "just work"?

...all of which scares the crap out of me. If I wind up trashing the PVR & it's config/databases, it will quickly lose wife appeal. This is why I need to have all of my ducks in a row before anything is done.
