Recording Service crash

Things went down hard last night. No error in the logs, but I did find an application error for the recording service in the system's event log this morning. I've attached the logs and a screenshot of the error.

Any thoughts?

That log shows it dying in sbe.dll, which is the Microsoft DVR-MS mux.

Ok, so should one expect the dvr-ms mux to be able to take down the recording service like that? It happened - of course - the night I have two of my family's favorite shows set to record, and looking through my PC's event logs, I can see it happened about 3 times in the last 2 months.

If there's nothing you can do about it - long term - I'll probably just bite the bullet and switch back to the .ts mux, living with it's issues of viewing in-progress recordings. But if you think it's an exception the recording service can catch and handle without crashing and it's going on the to do list, I'll probably stick with it and hope it doesn't hit me too many more times before it's fixed.

There is nothing GB-PVR could do stop an external DLL from killing the process if the crash is bad enough. Some types errors just cant be caught and will bring down a process instantly. Often with directshow these occur on background threads created by the components which GB-PVR has no visibility of, and no way to catch. This would be a pretty rare situation though - I dont think I've seen single other report of this occurring in sbe.dll. For the most part the DVR-MS is super reliable.

If the problem persist, all I can suggest is switching to a different mux.

Thanks sub. It's hit me a few times in the last few months - this was simply the first time I took the time to post about it - and when it did, the recording service died abruptly. I'll just switch back to the TS mux - thanks for the extra info.
