This is a fresh install of Vista x86 Business, I've installed the .net2.0 (it says: already included in operating system), then the vcredist_x86.zip (it says "wait while the redistributable is configured" and then quits without any further comment). Then I installed the gbpvr 1.1.5, it installs without error message.

After disabling Nod32 IMON module, the Recording service starts and then, after a minute or so its off again. The log says that (full log included as attachment:

Code:
2008-02-10 14:12:54.718    ERROR    [5]    FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION:: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: the module was not found. (Exception of HRESULT: 0x8007007E)
   at GBPVR.RecordingService.x93f60a55016d55c4.xcba1f05fb5a46d5f()
   at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart_Context(Object state)
at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state)
   bei System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()

Installing the hotfix doesn't help. The hotfix says: "the upgrade patch cannot be installed because the program that should be updated cannot be found or the update expects another version ..."

Is there maybe another requirement by gbpvr? I have not installed the Windows media player.

If you could help me that would be great.

It sounds like your Vista x86 Business install is missingt something that is required and normally present. Its likely to be WMP if that isnt on your machine.

Ah well. I just read about that Vista N-Versions do not allow to install the Windows Media Player. So I will probably never be able to run bgpvr. I think you should add that info to the survival guide / the requirements. (maybe its already there but I did not found that info)

I'll install a non-N-version of Vista next week and will let you know if it works then.

The readme at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...eadme.aspx seems to indicate you can install WMP11 on a N or NK version of Vista.

OK, now it works, and here is how:

With a Vista N-version you need to start this Windows Media player 11 setup for WinXP. This will tell you that something is missing and the installation will fail. After the next reboot the Windows Update says, it has a critical update for you. After that update is installed, gbpvr works.

Thats a bit weird because you need the Mediaplayer Setup for XP to get a update for Vista that will enable Codecs. You do NOT need to install the Media player itself. And: that special update is not available for download, you only get it when you try to install the Mediaplayer.

[Update]: it looks like this critical update installs the MP11 too.

who is still confused, but now with running gbpvr and very happy with that Wink

I have sort of the same problem: I have a fresh Vista ultimate install.
I've installed the .net2.0 (it says: already included in operating system), then the vcredist_x86.zip (it says "wait while the redistributable is configured" and then quits without any further comment). Then I installed the gbpvr 1.1.5, it installs without error message.
I then installed the hotfix, but it says: "the upgrade patch cannot be installed because the program that should be updated cannot be found or the update expects another version ..."
After that I totally diabled Nod32 AND windows firewall.
I have a Vista WITH Windows media player, I started it once, I checked for updates (no update there).
But Recording service doesn't start at all.

User account control is disabled. I am logged in as Administrator.

In the log, the last lines are:
"2008-03-08 09:06:33.013 VERBOSE [11] Hour is currently 9. Conversions will happen between 1:00 and 6:00
2008-03-08 09:07:09.443 INFO [4] GB-PVR Recording Service stopping
2008-03-08 09:07:09.546 INFO [5] RecordingManager has been signalled to shutdown
2008-03-08 09:07:09.546 INFO [5] RecordingManager has finished
2008-03-08 09:07:10.454 INFO [4] GB-PVR Recording Service shutdown complete
2008-03-08 09:07:10.462 INFO [2] Finalize called".

When I manually try to start GBPVRRecordingService.exe by doubleclicking on it, I get "Can't start service from prompt or ....A windows service has to be installed and then started with....or the command NET START" (translated from Dutch).

Can anyone help me with this?

Update:

In another thread I read I had to check my firewall settings. They are as they are supposed to be: rules for incoming GBPVRRecordingService.exe twice (1x TCP, 1x UDP) and GBPVRTray.exe twice (1x TCP, 1x UDP). All private and allowed.

In contrast what I stated before, the services GBPVRTray.exe (useraccount), GBPVRRecordingService.exe (systemaccount) and PVRX2.exe (systemaccount)are running. I noticed when I checked "processes of all users" in taskmanagement.

I use as instructed the dongle from MVPMV 20070830.

I also tried if I could get MVPsoftware running and that did function.
Stopping these services and take the power off the MVP and in again, I could find the computername en IP (at booting the MVP) but then the blue screen with "connecting to server" keeps on being displayed. So GB-PVR doesn't come up yet.

Any help is welcome.

Update: problem solved.

It was a problem with Net2.0 not correctly installed.

When I turned to another problem: ati catalyst control center not starting at all, a google search learned that was due to a Net2.0 problem. So uninstalled ati card, net 2.0, GBPVR, etc and reinstalled everything again...and it works now. I will try to write a small checklist for newbies on Vista like myself that they can check to see if services (2 of them have to be turned on), firewall, etc are correct. Have a bit experience now.

And, also very important, the dongle MVPMC does work for me in Vista ultimate. At least so far.
