I am running the latest version of PVRX2 (1.2.9) and the Community Skin.

Net Radio did work at one time but I haven't been able to get it to work in quite a while.

I deleted all logs and then started PVRX2 and tried to run Net Radio. The attached logs show some sort of program problem but I don't understand exactly what I have to do to fix it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like either you're recording service isnt running, or you have a firewall getting in the way of communication.

I couldn't find any settings in my firewall that would seem to have any effect like you described so I "Restarted Recording Servcie" and then disabled the firewall so it allows all incoming and outgoing connections and still got the same result.

I am having a problem with the recording service not starting if I try to record a program that has already started. Maybe these two problems are related.

I have just gotten into the habit of restarting the recording service every time I enter to record a program, even if it won't start until hours from now.

Any other suggestions about what I should look into? I will even go to the extreme of reinstalling GBPVR from scratch, if necessary. I hope that that will not be necessary because of all the time it would take to get back to where I am but I won't rule that out. Just don't suggest it in the same way people always say to reboot your computer to see if that helps fix a problem.

Double check you're still getting "Failed to communicate with the Recording Service: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host" in your logs. If so, then check if GBPVRRecordingService.exe is shown in the task list (might need to tick the 'show processes for all users'). If it is running, then you definitely have a firewall getting in the way.

People often swear their 3rd party firewall is set to allow GB-PVR's communication, only to later find the built in Windows firewall has reenabled itself, so they werent aware this other firewall was blocking communication... so check that too if you're running something other than the windows firewall.

I checked and am still getting the error message and GBPVRRecordingService.exe does show up in my Task Manager list of processes.

I checked and Windows firewall is disabled. I use Comodo Firewall and I set it so that it does no monitoring or blocking. Short of actually uninstalling it, I think this is the most I can disable it.

I will continue to see if there is anything firewall related that I can find. In the meantime, any suggestions about where I should look would be appreciated.

If GBPVRRecordingService.exe is running, then I'm positive its related to your firewall.

Based on the suggestions in the Error Messages portion of the INstallation FAQ for GBPVR, I started looking into my anti-virus. I use NOD32. I am now at the point where I can get Web Radio to work and Net Radio has a (...buffering) message at the top of the screen when I select a station and it doesn't get past that and I get error messages like this in the log.
2008-03-10 10:57:33.125 ERROR [10] Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
2008-03-10 10:57:33.125 ERROR [10] at DirectShowPlayerBase.playMusicFile(DirectShowPlayerBase* , Char* filename, HWND__* ownerHwnd)

I guess I'm getting closer. What do you suggest now?

Zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Sub, during the install of the CommunitySkin and SkinPlugin, I have the script stop the recording service, install the skin and some common plugin libraries, and restart the recording service. There appears to be an issue with it restarting from the script.

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=33777

I'll have to check into this tonight when I get home.

Here is the log from when I started up PVRX2 and then went into Net Radio and selected a station and got to the ...buffering message. I then exited PVRX2 before ZIPping the log files.
