More NZ Freeview questions

Am not gonna want to watch it, not having the big flash tv and all.

But I am keen to record some of it for later/taking to a friends to watch on their tv.

So have currently got a DVB-S Channel Source, and the two PVR500 channel sources - these I've labelled all the channels the same so that they'll all pick up the same programmes.

What I'm thinking of doing with the DVB-T is keeping these "separate" and creating some new channels so they don't record the normal tv1, 2, 3 stuff.

Question is, based on what we've seen about the HD, do we know if we will get any indication in the EPG as to a program that is in HD, so i can force it to record on the DVB-T rather than one of the other 3 sources??

And is this part of the MHPEG5 (whatever) based epg that isn't supported yet?

GB-PVR doesnt support MHEG-5, which is used for the EPG in DVB-T. Apparently the MHEG-5 EPG would have shown something to indicate a show is highdef, but you'd only see that on an official box.

So the only way I could do it, would be to "fudge" an XMLTV file with the regular channels and highlight the stuff in HD..

Is the MHEG-5 stuff not something that could be added later (release 1.6/1.7 type area) or is it encrypted or other tom foolery to stop people like you doing that??

You could probably use some fake genre and genre colouring to highlight shows if you know why ones are HD.

To be hoesnt, it doesnt seem worth it. Its a lot of work and only gives a pretty ugly fullscreen TV Guide that wouldnt be intergrated with your GB-PVR TV Guide.

Oh, so it's not like the dvb-s stuff where it's data that can be converted to XML?? What is it, like a video or something?

Now I understand. Looks like I'll be hacking up my EPGSplit program to add some HD crap in there...

MHEG-5 is kind of like a more advanced teletext. It has instructions for drawing things on the screen. ie "fill the background with black", "draw a white box 2pixels wide from 50,50,200,76", draw a red text "HD" in x font at location x,y....

Its tv guide is just a set of pictures, so not straight forward to try to extract anything from.

I've heard rumours they may need to also carry the EIT information on DVB-T to support the Freeview DVB-T PVR they're planning later in the year. We'll just have to wait and see.

I just dont think MHEG5 is worth the hassle at this stage.

In NZ MHEG-5 only provides the EPG (no additional info). Its a big chunk work, and I cant use the couple of existing GPL implementations because they're incompatible with GB-PVR's license. The EPG can be already be easily sourced using a few other mechanism.
