Fair enough! Seems to be a common question (as you'll have noted elsewhere) ... hard to explain to people that their recent vintage video cards need an upgrade.

Sorry about not replying for a while - why the heck havn't I been getting email updates of this thread I wonder - must be a CP setting or something.

Anyway, I've basicly resolved my problem. It seems the older versions of the cyberlink decoder didn't do acceleration on 7xxx cards under vista. With the latest version hardware acceleration now works, but it only seems to work using EVR. The reason it doesn't work for smctainsh is the HD264 pack has a very old version of the decoder - even older than the one I had before (I couldn't update to the latest build but cyberlink sent me a full build so it now works).

TV3 still has the same weird ghosty behaviour in VMR9 but works more or less fine in EVR (on mediaportal - I'm having a strange problem with GB-PVR where everything is extremely choppy which is strange), the video still goes out of sync whenever it stutters slightly though (think this might be a mediaportal problem as EVR is still experimental on it - which fixes itself if I rewind then fastforward again).

I still have a strange issue where occasionally a previous frame will appear for a second then dissappear back to the correct frame - on EVR it sort of dissolves in and out and on VMR it is a clean cut (not sure if this is a signal issue, mediaportal issue or codec issue).

I'm getting a little sick of all of the misinformation all over the internet claiming that only 8xxx series supports H.264 acceleration - it is true that only the 8xxx series supports full hardware offloading of it but even back to some of the 6xxx series supported partial acceleration.

I'm just going to have another go at getting GB-PVR to work (I rediscovered this thread looking for a solution). Any help with any of my remaining issues would be great Big Grin.

Regards,
Anthony

EDIT: Yay, none of the above mentioned problems occur with GB-PVR - I can finally watch TV3 properly Big Grin. The extreme audio video stuttering seems to have fixed itself somehow. I now have a few new problems - there is no sound at all while timeshifting and audio crackles and cuts out sometimes with live tv (when the computer isn't keeping up? it does it less when I close open programs - still shouldn't audio be the clock not video? Also the cpu usage isn't at 100% while it's crackling). This happens even with light 576i channels like tvnz 6 but is particularly bad on TV3. Finally for some reason the zoom settings don't seem to be having any effect (still full image complete with black bands etc. outside the safe area). Any ideas?

Hi everyone,

Following up on my earlier post, I did some research and found that only the Nvidia cards (very few at the moment) with the new VP2 video processor will fully offload h.264 processing. The article below explains this:-

If you don't have one of these cards, coreavc is probably the fastest software decoder around. Anyone tested GBPVR with this?

Yes. This decoder has some problems changing channels. It doesnt like the video encoding characteristics change mid stream, and causes corruption on the screen. I've contacted the manufacturer of the problem to ask about this. They told me they're aware of the problem and hope to fix it in the future.

Just to add my 2 cents - I'm playing with a Haupauge Nova-T 500 in a spare pc in the garage (my old antenna is on the garage roof - fine for 1 jack, was too weak for the house) - It's only an old Dell P4 1.7Ghz so I don't expect it to playback - I've recorded a few clips from various channels - C4 seemed to playback on my main pc ok in PVRX2 with VMR9 Custom, TV3 - Played back with audio but was a little ghosty/jittery - Some motion was smooth but a car across the screen was jittery. TV1 was jerky as a jerky thing.

Also the EPG isn't working right? If I force a download I get the current program and the next program in the EPG and thats all?? Is this because they aren't broadcasting it right yet or do I have a config issue?

I'm using PowerDVD 7.3 Ultra - how do I tell what version of the codec is installed?

With the playback issues are these definately on the playback side or could the pc be having problems streaming the TS to disk? I'm assuming its the playback end. Tonight I'll chuck PDVD7 on my office pc (A Core2 blah blah blah) and see if they play any better.

Only now/next is being broadcast via EIT on DTT. DTT is using MHEG5 for the EPG. So you'll need to use another solution to scrape the EPG.

Ok - I've found that on my Core2Duo (E6320) with 4GB and a Nvidia 8600GT all 3 channels I recorded play flawlessly - CPU utilisation under 10% too!!! Might be time to upgrade - may bang my E6320 in the Lounge pc and get a faster core2 for the office - Might be time to delete vista from the office - its TOO slow. Is there any burning reason to run Vista in the lounge now that XP can do EVR??

For tv3 being ac3 audio at the moment, what do i need to run that? If I have an dolby digital movie (ac3) it comes through to my stereo, or is this because gbpvr is expecting to use the monogram decoder and can't cos the audio codec of the channel is not currently that?

What countries are we identical to? I under stand france have the same system? (Audio and Video codecs). If so perhaps we could start a forum specially for DVB-T in these countries? Just a thought....

Also - what do the quality settings do now with DVB-T recordings? My understanding is we are simply saving the stream to hard drive - If so do the quality settings do nothing now? Or does the tuner/card have various options for stream throughput?

Another thought - is there anything broadcast with the digital signal to help with Ad detection... cause I'm assuming ShowAnalyzer/Comskip won't be working with H264 in any great hurry Wink
