Unable to stream outside my house...

I recently did a complete re-install (OS and everything) on my primary GBPVR server & since then I am unable to stream recordings (or live tv) outside of my LAN.

I haven't touched the configuration on my router, so nothing has changed there. I have my server set up with the same static IP as before, so the problem doesn't lie there.

I've tried from multiple friends houses, but in each case WMP sits at "connecting..."

Streaming works fine on other PC's on my LAN, just not outside. Any ideas as to what I'm missing? I had it working before, but must have forgot a step when setting it up again.

Are you talking able a client PC, or via the EWA streaming?

It may be because your machine is pulling a different ip address than before from your router and your router is forwarding the ports to the old ip.

The machine is using the same IP (I have my servers use static IP) - besides, I can get to the EWA from outside, it's just streaming that doesn't work.

I added VLC to the list of exceptions on the windows firewall, and even tried turning it off, but it doesn't make a difference...

You also need to forward the streaming ports in your router. Other than that, I don't know what to suggest.

Thanks anyway. I checked that & the streaming port is set to forward to the correct IP. I was also able to verify that VLC starts up on the server when the stream is requested.

I'm at my fathers house right now & when I bring up the network connections as I'm streaming (while WMP shows "connecting...") and it shows lots of incoming data - I'm not sure whats coming in then if WMP is unable to complete the connection...

First thing I always do is to see if it is windows media player.....try using VLC as the client rather than wmp and let me know what happens.

Thanks - I'll give it a shot. Can't do this at work since I don't have priviledges there (although WMP used to work at the office), next time I'm at my brothers, I'll give it a shot.

VLC gives me this error:

Unable to open 'http://<mydomain>:7648'

I wonder if my ISP is blocking something - it is odd though that it would coincide with my reinstall...

try changing the ports then
i know you say you have the port forwarding correct but i would still bet my money on that
or your seerver machine is not set up right (i know you say you have it set up right but check again even delete all the settings and re enter them)
