Canyouseeme.org says port 7648 is closed. I'll try deleting the settings on my router & putting them in again...

Error: I could not see your service on 69.249.169.233 on port (7648)

OK, I tried another test & this isn't making sense.

I left my router settings & firewall settings as is. I used the config app to change the EWA port to 7648 (the one I am having trouble streaming on) & had no problems accessing the EWA on that port, so the router is forwarding properly.

However, I then set streaming on 7647 (previously used for accessing the EWA), and i can't stream on that from outside (had a friend try it for me).

I checked the task manager on my server while my friend attempted to stream video & VLC starts up. It appears that the ports themselves are not blocked since the EWA works on both.

I am completely at a loss as to what is causing this since I haven't touched my router config in months and it was working until a couple of days ago when I did the reinstall.

I tried disabling both the windows firewall & my router firewall and that didn't make a difference either.

Does VLC have any logs or would any of the GBPVR logs be useful?

Sorry if I'm bugging everyone with this thread, but I just wanted to ask one more question (I'll leave you all alone after this unless I actually figure out what is wrong or someone else thinks of something to try).

I decided to switch to completely different ports and modify router & firewall settings from scratch. Here's what I did:

At home:
1) In config, I checked the box to enable the EWA (port 8100 this time)
2) In config, I checked the NMT extensions box (not sure if this is necessary)
3) Brought up Windows Firewall settings and added VLC as an exception
4) Added ports 8100 & 8101 (TCP & UDP) to my list of exceptions
5) Added vlc.exe to my list of firewall exceptions
6) verify that the scope for steps 4&5 was set to allow anyone to connect
7) In the port forwarding section on my router (linksys wcg200) I told the router to forward ports 8100 & 8101 to my GBPVR server's IP

At work:
1) opened browser & entered http://<domain>:8100/gbpvr
2) entered username & password at the prompt
3) went to the recordings page, clicked the "Stream" button for a show
4) Entered the following settings in the popup window:
Player: WMP (checked box for external player)
Bitrate: 256
Size: 320x213
Port: 8101
Buffer Size: 5000
Priority: Below Normal
5) Clicked "Start Stream" and then "Launch Player"
6) WMP opens up but just sits there

Obviously I missed something, but I can't figure out what. Anyone else?

I appreciate all the replies.

I got it to work!!

Looks like it had nothing to do with firewall settings or anything like that.

I tried streaming again & changed the transcode options from MP4V/MP4A/MPEG-TS to WMV/MP3/ASF and it worked.

Not sure why that fixed it (especially since I had no trouble streaming on my LAN), but it's working now...

I am assuming you set EWA to a different port when you set the stream port to 7648. You can only have one item on one port so if you have EWA set to the default 7647 and the streamer on 7647 you will have all kinds of unexplainable errors.

Yea.....I think that is one of the few combos that works for wmp. VLC should be able to play the other setting without an issue.

Glad to hear you got it up an running again.

I am having issues with streaming as well. I didn't have any luck with VLC so I tried WMP. Followed Philly's lead and I have positive results but streaming only lasts for about 15 seconds before it stops. Any ideas why?

Thanks.

IIRC (from the dim and distant past!) I seem to remember increasing the buffer size sorted this for me

This is my exact problem. Philly, did you figure it out?

I am port forwarding 7648 (VLC stream) , 8181 (GBPVR EWA), and Port 8080. Port 80 is also forwarded to the same machine, it has IIS installed.

So, i can connect from any computer on my LAN and stream with VLC. But from outside my network, through the router, nothing.

side question, Why in the Wiki here: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utili...min#stream does it state that VLC uses 8080? that's why I port forwarded 8080 as well, but not sure what VLC uses it for.
