I would love to see something like Zehd proposed for Back to Back recordings implemented (Combine multiple back to back recordings into a single long recording that will be split up again later). This could reduce the number of tuners needed and the number of times the input cable needs to be split.

I can almost see the logic for it going into Ultra XMLTV Enhancer, so the calculations for the new show are done during EPG Update time.
But the real EPG records are stored elsewhere. One very long record is created, and GB-PVR records as per normal - it will be just a long show.... Then when the long show is finished, I slice it up to include pre and post padding. Since its one long contiguous file, there'll be no timestamp issues. I then reintroduce the cut up shows, into the database with their original show description. I then run Comskip on each file.
OK. That sounds pretty good. Now just need some more time...
