Well, that's what I thought, too. Yet, it does not "find" any channels... I don't know what to make of it.

Anyway, attached are the two logs (zipped). Thanks for reviewing them.

Try running ReRegisterFilters.bat.

Ok, I had some trouble running that file at first. That's because I ran it from the "My Computer" icon, clicked my way through the filesystem to the GBPVR folder, then right-clicked the bat file and selected "Run as administrator" (I'm on Vista and have to deal with the User Access Control security mechanism. However, the batch file was running in the System32 folder of windows and NOT in the installation folder of GBPVR, which caused it to not recognize a whole slew of .ax files.

Then I ran "Command Prompt" as administrator, CD'ed into the GBPVR folder and ran the bat from there. That workedRolleyes

So now I'm running a scan again. However, I also have Vista Media Center (it's Vista Home Premium). And now, the channel scan doesn't even lock onto the signals. COULD there be a driver concurrency issue? I mean, I already started the TV Signal wizard in Vista, but canceled the process when I realized it wanted to scan for OTA and not digital cable. But I think something got messed up because now, some channels have duplicate EPG info in MCE. Particularly, my Rick Steves' Europe won't record anymore because I think it's trying to record on the digital WTTWDT channel, which as I mentioned before, is not set up as I canceled the wizard.

Oh my. And also, I sometimes get the Vista Recording Service has Failed to Start error message... So tomorrow, when I have time, I will reboot the machine. During the day I have no shows scheduled to record and there should be no concurrency issue. I will report my findings then.

Thanks for pointing out the Re-Register batch file.

You probably need to stop the various MCE services to make sure it is no longer holding onto the device.

Ok, I did that. Again, nothing. I also disabled and re-enabled the "USB ATSC Device" (aka my Kworld); still: nothing.

I have no clue why the heck it is so difficult to scan for QAM stations. Contrary to the previous channel scan (see the log I attached in the earlier post), I now won't even get a locked=1 anymore, no matter how often I scan. Maybe I have to reboot the computer (again)? Weird enough, though, when I launch Arcsoft TotalMedia, it is able to instantly tune into a station and show me the video... I give up...

I bet once Microsoft Media Center get its update and QAM will finally be supported (IF it is supported), this KWorld dongle will work right out of the box because Microsoft knows how to make magic and the rest of the world are just slaves to Microsoft...

(running another scan while I type, and will attach the logs later for your amusement, uhm, review)

This is why I recommend people stick with common devices like the Hauppauge HVR1600/1800 etc, where QAM just works.

I know. And I deeply regret that I was being cheap again. I had one problem though: no more available PCI and PCIe slots. That's why I wanted to go with a USB device... Sigh. Oh well, guess I'm busted.

in the total media dir there's a .reg file you need to click on..sets \Microsoft\TV System Services\TVAutoTune presets..

plus a atsc.set file to inport into a qam.ini as i notice they're slightly different..
158 vs 133 chans, plus some freq. different...

If you want to try scanning these same frequencies, its fairly easy for you to make a qam.ini file that uses the same frequencies. Just update qam.ini following the lead shown for the first few frequencies below...

Code:
[CABTYPE]
1=All Countries
2=All Frequencies

[DVB]
0=158
1=73250000,0,0
2=55250000,0,0
3=61250000,0,0
...etc

Try this:
Code:
[CABTYPE]
1=All Countries
2=All Frequencies
