Ok, so what is telling MLPanel what the current song is? Is this why I saw messages from actcms re: a timer?

And if this was the display mechanism, I'm guessing it's disguising itself as a screen saver, do you/anybody have control over when the screen saver is activated, i.e can it be pretty much instant??

This does bring up some interesting avenues....including the possibility of Last.FM support!!

Sadly that only works for internet radio. For other uses you'd have to play files one at a time with the 8-10 second gap between songs and another 20 seconds or so for mvpmcx2 to re-acquire the screen. You'd probably have to do like slimserver and create your own mini http server to do something useful.

Internet radio doesn't work well with mixed formats and bit rates so you would need to transcode to a common format which might put some strain on the server for hours.

You'd lose the ability to do things like prev and next too.

What about a squeezecenter client? I noticed mvpmc had one, and I know that you can send album art inside the slimtcp proptocol....

I went looking for some code to potentially turn ML2 into a squeeze client as well, and then that could be the basis of music playing - with squeezecenter as the server component for tag reading, maintaining the library etc...

I think as a squeeze client on the PCH you'd still get the fullscreen PCH player with no control over the screen. I'm hoping this will change down the track, but I think while we're limited to running 'mono' for playing files then we dont have too much control over this stuff.

That's mvpmc. I've already roughed out a pseudo slimserver client for the pch version but it has the same HDMI issues as mvpmcx2

I would be interested in having the functionality in the sample you posted. Even though it's not the greatest, having a plasma, I really don't want that image burned into my screen. Something is better than nothing...
