Dabbs answered my original question in the "freesat tuning" thread - you can force GBPVR to use a particular codec for video and not rely on what the stream says it is. The cache file entry for ITV HD below works just fine:

T:11428,H,27500,23~NID:670~ONID:670~TSID:10510~P:5 4207~V:3401~VTYPE:H264~A:3402~L:NAR~PMT:3400~TXT:1 405~PCR:3401~N:>ITV HD

So I have everything running pretty well now. Added E4 and More4 last night with no problems. Will be nice when ITV HD actually has some progs and not just the gerkin!

I have recently upgraded from a 2.5Ghz celeron with AGP HD2600XT card as playback wasn't completely smooth, to an AMD/ATI 780G mb (built in HD3200) and a 45w dual core 2.4Ghz AMD CPU (nice and quiet!) and I have silky smooth playback on SD and HD at 720p. Annoyingly I cant get the ATI CCC to give me 1080p@50 (being in PAL land) but it only offers 1080p@60 which leads to jerky playback. I've found a prog that'll in theory help me setup 1080p@50 but have yet to find time to play with it. 1080i25 gives me really poor interlacing (worse than I got with the HD2600) so currently 720p is the best I have got working. Does it damn nice though!

So this worked and you got a picture?

Yup Big Grin a nice smooth loop of the London Gherkin currently playing. No sound last time I tried but the digitalspy forums say that's off at the mo anyway. From what I read ITV have been sneaky with the steam incorrectly labeled to stop non Freesat equipment picking it up so I am very pleased that GBPVR seems to do so fine. Thanks guys for all the help!

Yeah I read about that.

I'm in the middle of trying to make some changes that would allow recordings ITV to playback, but unfortunately I'm having some problems just treating it as H.264. Its good to read this works with Live TV though, since that gives me hopes that I'm doing the right thing. I'm obviously not able to test live tv from here.

BTW, thanks for the confirmation.

ITV HD will be a red-button service available exclusively to freesat customers, so whenever you’re watching ITV1 and an HD logo pops up at the top of your screen, just press the red button on your remote control to watch it in glorious high definition.

I was wondering whether this be a problem for gbpvr?

I suspect it'll working, as BigMoose demonstrated above, but it depends how they use it as to how complicated it'll be. It'll probably end up being two channels in GB-PVR, a low def one and a high def one, with the highdef one only carrying data while HD shows are playing. With appropriate EPG info it might not be as bad as it sounds though.

I have no plans to implement the MHEG-5 red button support.

The channel plays fine in GBPVR, as a stand alone channel. However I think the problem might be working out what's on when if it doesn't carry everything that's on ITV1 and if the RT doesn't carry separate guide data for it, it'll make recording somewhat hard. I hope it simulcasts everything on ITV1, some in true HD some upscaled, then I can use the RT ITV1 data for the EPG. So far it's just a test loop so have no idea what it will actually be showing when there's no real HD prog on.

I can't see Radiotimes carrying a seperate EPG for the HD channel.

However, it is possible that the EPG will contain a field indicating whether it is HD or not. Therefore it shoudl theoretically be possible to write a program to create a new EPG guide just for the HD channel.

Plently of time to figure it out I guess..

Yeah, that was exactly my thinking. Hard to guess at this stage though.

Anyone got audio on ITV HD?

I heard on another forum that the sound was off on the Gherkin loop but now there is a test card with 1 Khz audio tone,
I get a perfect picture but no audio, however if do a short recording it will play back in media player classic with audio.
