Controlling WHEN hardware is initialised..?

Is there any way of changing something so that the graphics for the selected hardware decoder is NOT initialised until Live TV or DVD etc. is selected?
Basically so no image is being output from the X-Card/PVR 350 whilst using the menu system?

...or alternatively cease normal TV OUT of graphics card when in Live TV mode? Or even be able to associate another operation such as calling a batch file when Live TV (or DVD) is selected?
